the lucent hive just rubs it in a very gay way and i'm pretty homophobic, which sucks since the premise is a'ight
Can you elaborate?
especially with the trav being backstabby implications that bungie did their best to shy away from since the new writers are fucking hacks.
Im more disappointed by the fact lucent hive are just barely used. At least with the house of light and Caiatl's cabal it actually looks and feels like progress being made regarding relations with former enemy races
Nigga made good weapons though.
Should have turned himself into a weapon like we did xol

what's there to elaborate, i pretty much summed it up with the trope of enemies using your guns twist not to mention red war... oh right, though they did that exo fallen shit which was alright.
although lucent hive being unused feeling is probably because of lightfall and the unibrow being slammajammed.
Should have turned himself into a weapon like we did xol
can you even stick a bunch of valkyrie lances up his ass for that though? i know xol had enough of that shit.
on another note i had to watch the video to recheck how many lances you stick up it's butt and it has that whole rasputin talk about him having no equal and shit, only for himt to kill himself because of the unibrow... FUCKING LAUGHABLE.
Nigga made good weapons though. Bad Juju refilling and boosting damage with every kill makes it a super satisfying exotic to use.

good to know i guess?

Exo rasputin because ana unplugs him?
That's because him being alive means his vast weapons system stays online so the only way to protect the traveler is remove himself from the board, he kills himself for the traveler and humanity
good to know i guess?
Always depressing to see exotics i unlocked through unique quests now sold as a dlc bundle

Lord of Every Nothing
See that could be some interesting shit, I feel like if theyre gonna always have the winnower in the background as being this thing that you can't really beat since it's literally a concept exploring more of what it means to be taken and how it works could be exposited via this Lord of Every Nothing, shame we'll never see it

Efrideet is mentioned in a lore tab still chilling with her pacifists

If they ever decide to move out of Sol it'd be really interesting to have her faction brought in, because presumably if you're not using the light to throw nukes around but to do other things like smaller scale terraforming or whatever other shit the light allows you to do it could open up the path to new abilities or rework some things. We know that the Sun breakers were out there just making hammers of Sol in giant ass forges, and it always had me thinking, why not then just also use that to forge shit, like you got these schizos out here wearing bones of wish dragons, is forging using the light so out there? Didn't we do some shit like that with the Exotic swords we made with the remains of Oryx's sword in taken king?

well there was that time when they went for the veil and

Oh yeah you totally just reminded me about the veil, something which we never learned shit about, Nimbus was so insufferable too. I actually really liked Calus as a character and this serious thing between his final moments and his daughter just turned into a fucking MCU flick complete with cringey quips, made me want to shoot the writers out of a cannon into the ocean.
was she ever implied to be some sort of 5d chest master? One of her first actions in the destiny universe is kicking the person set to be awoken queen out of the way so she could become it, she's always come off as someone who knows they aren't the main character desperately trying to be the main character no matter the cost. Whenever her plans actually work it seems like they only worked through random chance not some grand well planned chess play.

Prior to them retconning her character somewhat in the season where Uldren/Crow regains his memories she most definitely is implied and explicitly in the lore shown to be very manipulative, like for example the whole taken king shit, where the ritual they were doing seemingly actually did work, and it's implied that Mara now has a throne world of her own and that her seeking more power was always the play. Her doing the Coup in the Distributary like you mentioned is one of the times where it's just plainly stated that she's manipulative. Then theres the whole thing with Riven. I don't think she's this bumbling idiot that occasionally has her plans work, I do think she's actually making plans and more often than not they work out at least in part, but the player character being what we are means that we see her plans fail alot more on screen than otherwise.

I do think at some point they might have had plans to have Uldren/crow kill her TBH ala elric of melnibone style but I think they veered off that course like with how the traveler was hinted at as not actually being this super benevolent thing and that it was actually humanity that crippled it to keep it from leaving.

Hot take but i think if they did an extraction gamemode in a destiny 2 expansion it would have done way better than marathon has. It probably would have had a better chance since people already know and like destiny gameplay/gunplay alongside having a story people would actually give a shit about

I mentioned it before, either here or in the Marathon thread, but Renegades had an extraction-lite mode built in. Granted, you'd really have to be trying to fuck up badly to actually fail at it, and you're not really risking anything while playing, but it has some of the structure. Moving from one PoI to another to complete objectives, scrounging around for bonus loot, getting invaded and engaging in PVP (although you can avoid that by not playing the maps that can be invaded that day), and finally making your way to exfil for one last holdout. It's simple, but pretty fun, especially with all the Renegade abilities you have access to.

Considering that a lot more people are playing Destiny right now, I'd say there's a nonzero chance that more people have played the Lawless Frontier than Marathon.

bro play the renegades intro that even freefags can play, you'll have to play a extraction match in the wastes map.

Someone convince me not to drop $20 on all the "content" that I haven't played in the 6 years since I quit the game. $20 is a low enough price to arouse my curiosity to see how much the game has truly gotten worse.
Well for some of that $20 you will just be getting the exotic, not even the missions or things that made getting them cool?
Is the Whisper mission still in the game? The one on Nessus(?) with the 'drown in the deep' worm talking to you while you jump through those cool set pieces before ending it in a completely phoned in arena fight against taken :story:

Yup it’s in the game, and the whisper is now craftable, you get a new frame up to IV from the mission.

Back when they were still selling most of the expansions for full price, I always told anyone interested not to bother unless they were on sale, and even then only if they were absolutely sure they wanted to put money into it after playing some F2P first, and even then only to pick up a single expansion. I could never in good conscience recommend the game to people due to how much was taken out and the constant FOMO. (That, and how absurd the cost was.)

Now? Well...I'm not going to sugarcoat it, there's still a lot that isn't included. Not only are the first two years of D2 still almost entirely vaulted, but every seasonal storyline from seasons 8 to 26 is simply inaccessible. Some of the seasonal content was put back into the game, but none of the story that tied it together is. If you're hoping to get a completely cohesive story to play through, you're fresh out of luck in that regard.

That said, $25 is a low enough price point that it's almost hard not to recommend it. You do still get the main campaigns from Shadowkeep through Renegades, most of which range from okay to excellent (we don't talk about Lightfall). There's a large variety of content across all aspects of the game, and the last update made pretty much all of it relevant again, even patrols. PVP is still kind of a mess, but at least they finally brought SRL back. And of course, there's still all the dungeons and raids that remain excellent years later, as well as Pantheon 2.0.

I think the full bundle is $50 now when it's not on sale, which is definitely a lot harder to recommend without reservation. But on sale, even if you only get a few hours out of it, it's not like you're out a lot of money. In the end, it's your call, but if you're on the fence, I'd advise just watching some videos from this update to get a feel for whether you think it'd be fun to dip your toes back in.

Ninja'd, but yeah, they did finally bring The Whisper and Zero Hour back during the Into the Light update along with making the exotics craftable, and they were then brought forward into the Portal more recently. I don't think there's any quest requirement to unlock all the intrinsics and catalysts anymore; I believe that as long as you run it on a high enough difficulty (Master?), you'll get everything unlocked.

This is kinda why I'm curious in the first place. I pay more for the occasional Taco Bell than this bundle. It's not like I'm new to the game though. I've played like 1200+ hours, but that was 6+ years ago just prior to weapon sunsetting and when the seasonal shit was just starting to really kick into gear. The last expansion I played was Shadowkeep, so I was interested in seeing how the story progressed, more than anything.
I know they reverted weapon sunsetting, but how exactly did they do that? Do I get the privilege of grinding a new set of guns again or am I lucky enough that I can upgrade my existing stash? I was absolutely fucking fuming when I learned that my Black Armory weapons were included in the sunsetting. Bungies entire process of removing content that you paid for was a big contributing factor in my quitting the game.

Like I said, because the seasonal stories aren't in the game, there's going to be big chunks of the overall plot that you won't be able to experience firsthand, so when you drop in the Tower and see Cabal and Fallen as you're running around, it's going to be more than a little confusing, to say nothing of things like "why is Uldren here, I killed him years ago" and such. The best you can do is watch a compilation video on YouTube for those parts of the story, unfortunately.

This is also an issue because parts of those stories are frequently referenced in the main expansion campaigns, so even if you hop from one to the next chronologically, you're still probably going to be missing some context along the way. There's probably enough for them still to be enjoyable (except for Lightfall, fuck Lightfall), but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that.

As for un-sunsetting (sunrising?), any of your old guns still in your vault are usable and infusable up to max power again, they basically just took those limits off. You might not get as much mileage out of them as you might think, though. Many have been powercrept over the years naturally, and many of the old guns have been reissued at some point or another, often with refreshed, better perks, as well as the addition of origin traits that provide small thematic bonuses. And with the new tier system, you can get guns that have objectively better stats and multiple perk combos. That said, there's nothing stopping you from using an old favorite, and any gun is still viable to some degree.

Oh, and speaking of Black Armory, all the weapons were brought back in this latest update as a reward from the six-player Arena Ops. And with attunement across a wide variety of activities (accessible from your inventory screen), you can more easily target farm a gun you're looking to get a good roll on. And on the bright side, no more updates means no more FOMO, so you don't have to worry about having any of this stuff removed ever again.
Which ones? I had all of the exotics up through Shadowkeep iirc.
The only exotic missions not currently in game are The Other Side (for Bad Juju), Harbinger (for Hawkmoon), and A Hollow Coronation (for Ager's Scepter, which I honestly forgot had a mission). Everything else is either part of the associated expansion's content or included in the Portal now. There are a fair number of other seasonal exotics that had questlines that were removed, but you can still pick up the exotics themselves from a kiosk in the Tower.

I didn't really care about The Other Side that much, it was kind of a weak mission that was only cool because it surprised you once you put down enough tributes in the Tribute Hall to unlock it. Harbinger was supposed to make a return at some point and allow craftable Hawkmoons, but they apparently didn't have time to squeeze it into the final update, so you just have to hope Xur has a good roll that week. And clearly A Hollow Coronation didn't leave much of an impact on me if I forgot it even existed. Either way, it still would have been nice to have them back.

Ya, I'll probably do that. Otherwise sounds like the game is at least somewhat back to where it should've stayed 6 years ago. For $20~ it seems worth sinking a little bit of time into for old time's sake. I'm glad my guns are actually usable, because needing to grind out an entire stash was another part of why I was so over the game for so long. I have very solid rolls for most of my guns and I ran fucking OG Midnight Coup in raids so I'm not too worried about my guns being a tad subpar.

Only took them 6 years lmao. It's good that they're back in any case, though I've already gotten as close to god rolls as I really cared about on most of them.

I'm pretty sure I have Hawkmoon? I don't remember 100% what was going on last I played. Thanks for the info in any case, and be sure to send Bungie an invoice for your referral fee.

I do it for free, and I take my job very seriously.

Seriously though, I would hope that they wouldn't pay me for probably turning away a few potential players and costing them hundreds of dollars over the years. Maybe if you made a better game and quit taking stuff away, I would have recommended it more, idiots!

But yeah, happy to help. I've always tried to be level-headed about the series and attempted to refrain from ballwashing or blind rage. As many a player has said, it's my favorite game that I can't recommend to anybody, except now I feel a little better about doing so. Still won't stop me from making sure people are informed of what they're getting into, though.

even now that destiny 2 is dead and presumably the entire franchise, i will still air my (petty) grievances

replacing peter dinklage was like replacing james earl jones with troy baker

it *confounds* me to have a company that made surprisingly emotional scenes in halo, and some very memorable, make the least emotional space story i've ever seen, with all characters looking like michael bay robots or dollar tree tali, every other spaceslop story is better, including, easily, their own past shit, when destiny was supposed to be their magnum opus dream project, besides maybe warframe which is just agp, troon pandering, and dollar store atomic heart-esque, fleshlight in car muffler gooner bait

if you can't have missions set up like even payday fuckin 2 and only have holiday events locked off, and instead fomo entire story arcs, kill yourself, do you know why the flood segments in each halo weren't irl time sensitive and (optionally) seasonally rotated? because that's fucking retarded. i don't give one single fuck about saving storage or whatever the fuck when you add 5000 filler missions but then go "but we have to remove the story uwu". if you remove entire story parts and just make constant filler shit, like months and months of filler then "oh the story's progressing next update" just fucking yeet that shit. yeet it all and just make it a looter shooter in wild wacky new areas. a normie might play a movie game like last of us or god of war, or progressively moving forward mystery uncovering like a souls game, but what fuckin normie is going to remember the past story events from what ought as well be decades ago and watch a cutscene marathon? at that point just go borderlands 2 and remove handsome jack and just say "have fun".

zero destiny or warframe for that matter alien creations were equal to any of the covenant in terms of interest and i will gladly stay on that hill with the flag, probably because it is, but it's like both of them, nu marathon, and others are just solely 100% to farm lootboxes and cosmetics, and it's amazing how much people accept it. even the michael bay transformers designs beat them to death with metal dicks. destiny is at BEST just any mass effect race design but dogshit and with dogshit world building, and warframe is made by people that at first just had bland grey synthetic robots, but then the entire fanbase flew in of troon people who saw the timesplitters 1 cover and Hajime Sorayama's drawings, got a fetish, and skip past overwatch or any other goon gacha etc shit and just goon to warframe sfm in particular on the daily and could give less of a fuck than having more explicitly robot ass jiggle physics and troon colors
