buy stuff from aliexpress a couple times a year, mostly for little craft stuff, clothing accessories, and little electronics that i dare to not care much about. i have this dinky pair of over the ear headphones i use for running, the stereo quality is absolute dookie, but i bought it for under $2, so it doesn't matter much for me. the bluetooth doesn't disconnect and my ears aren't clogged so i can hear my surroundings still so i give it a 8/10.
i did recently buy a bakers rack off temu, it's the same exact model i had seen on wayfair, but just cheaper. oh, and i got a bedframe too! ali, temu, shein etc... they all seem to have more the same items like youd see on ebay, amazon, and wayfair now, just with a couple more bad knockoffs in between. it seems like these marketplaces are eventually just going to merge into much less for these types of items.
i haven't checked wish in years. taobao, i'm afraid to touch because i know tarriffs are gonna suck, but i'm curious about the lolita brands on there.

Temu is literally modeled after a casino so it would not surprise me. You "win" every time and at checkout a new lottery pops up telling you that you "won" and just need to add $20 with of stuff for $200 off! ( Given to you in 20000 seperate coupons of 1cent off - limited 1 coupon per order that all expire in 3 days )
AliExpress is no nonsense, I do think Temu is good for like... Cheap Plastic Tupperware containers, if you don't mind Chinese chemicals seeping Into your food.
This is true. I do have Temu and bought a few things. This is what I can attest:
- Men's shirts, if they are 100% cotton, are surprisingly well-made. I buy fandom related ones and while the ink will fade quickly, the material is thick and durable. Women's clothing tends to be acrylic or polyester; it's hard to tell whether it's the type that is soft or the stuff that itches. I got one top for dirt cheap as part of those promotionals and I lucked out. It's like a bathing-suit style halter top meant for the summer.
- Pens. Your basic pens with Sanrio characters are well done, too.
- Notebooks/journals. They have some gorgeous art deco ones with more variety than Amazon.
- Costume jewelry. I got this one necklace I adored and one of the rings the lobster claw hooks on snapped off (another wasn't even attached). As they are dirt cheap costume jewelry (I paid $5 or so for them) I fixed them with rings I had leftover when I used to make beaded jewelry of my own. They do have some fancier, higher end costume jewelry such as pearls with witch hats - they're supposed to be ghosts - that are absolutely adorable. If you want actual freshwater/akoya/keshi pearls, eBay does have a few sellers that have pieces under $100.
- Charm bracelets. I used to get them off eBay from a few Chinese sellers; they were Pandora knockoffs. They used to be $6 back in 2018 and are now over $30. Some are under $10 and some over.
- Blankets there are roughly the same ones you find on Amazon. Sometimes even the same brand. Just examine the thread count and fabric and you should be fine.

Fashion wise, they had a few nice coats that looked better than the ones I've seen in Walmart or other department stores. Just be sure to look at the material and compare. Also, be sure to look at the materials of these jewelry pieces, as one necklace I got from eBay I later got a warning saying the piece had cadmium in it. I had to dispose of it.

Other bits I've gotten from Temu are:
- Nendoroids. They have Resident Evil and Elden Ring ones and they are also well-made. I used to get them elsewhere, but one website shut down. Other figurines I've gotten from eBay.
- Stuffed animals/plushies. These really don't make a difference as the makers and materials are the same there as they are on Amazon, albeit without the huge markup.
- Some posters are there that are also pretty cheap. if you want good quality ones, eBay is where I go to get mine; they also jacked up the prices there, but if you want 'em, they're worth the money.

Furniture, I mostly get from Wayfair because the prices there aren't dissimilar from Temu. I've gotten some new bookshelves because my old one (really, wood pieces on a bracket because we couldn't afford one at the time) had water damage. All the shit is made in China anyways, so it doesn't really make a difference where you get it. I got some bed sets there and sheet sets when they had them on sale.

Edit: bookends! Temu actually has some really good ones. They're not flimsy either but 3D printed.

I'm a big fan of the $5 IR transmitters on aliexpress that turn your phone into a remote control. They work with so many things. I turned an A/C unit on in the airport today.

What do you think of the art crafts on temu and shein? I made accounts on those sites, but they look so shitty that my mind thinks they are a scam and hence I'm scared of buying anything there xd

What's sad is that wish is dying it was a good platform.
It depends. In cloth for quilting, it’s hit or miss. I’ve bought some really nice fabric and I’ve bought some that barely qualified as quilting fabric. For cross stitch, there’s a Chinese thread that everyone raves about- some say it’s better quality than DMC which is the gold standard (the brand is CxC). Cross stitch stamped kits: some are legit, some are AI. I haven’t tried the yarn yet, I have too much already.

I bought a slotted quilting ruler because the brand name was $70+ versus $15 for the AliExpress one, it arrived with a break in one edge. I didn’t want to jump through the hoops to return it, so I put some duct tape on the edge, it works fine.

I have no experience with paints or pencils, but my guess is that it’s going to be hit or miss there too.

Generally, I suspect that basic supplies are going to be fine. A needle is a needle is a needle, etc. Most of the stuff in the store is made in China anyway. If it’s cheap enough to where you don’t really care if you don’t get what you’d like, buy it and see.

I get a lot of embroidery stuff off there, the quality is hit and miss, however when i want to try a new project out say like kumiho it's absolutely fine. I've not found thread better the DMC yet on ebay/temu/shein yet. However sometimes the thread colours come out better then expected.

If you are paying a quarter of the price you'll get a dud occasionally but it;s easy enough to get a refund. In fact most of the time they'll just write it off and give you a discount, i usually scam TEMU by reporting it as broken under a certain amount and get it for free. They've cracked down on it a little bit, so you won't get a $100 item for free but most stuff you won't have to send back and if it's truely garbage send it back and let it go to the land fill like god intended.

I actually got a decent car seat for my dog that he doesn't hate it's high walled enough he won't go flying, but spacious enough for him to spread out and get comfortable, cheaper then anything else on the internet atm.

I can’t guarantee it, but in my experience yes, you will. And probably faster than AliExpress, but then I’ve always gotten what I ordered from them too. Sucks you didn’t get your stuff and lost your account.

From Temu & Shein absolutely it'll arrive.

They have that shit locked down tight, and if it doesn't arrive you get a refund no questions asked because they need to provide tracking.

There's always a risk something won't arrive but they didn't get popular for scamming people i'll put it that way, only thing that sucks about Temu now is that they have a minimum $40 spend but it's good for little bits and bobs.

Yeah thankfully I didn't lose a lot of money I'm just confused that anybody uses this shit xd

Good. I remember I was satisfied with Wish' quality until Wish died down and now they have hardly any stuff. I bought myself colored pencils for like 3$ and they were better than Polish ones that cost like 10$ (translating from Polish złoty).

I bought some stationery notebooks and cute post-it notes from TEMU.

They are super cute, aren't they?

(it was a few years ago)
In the more recent 2 years, Ali has really bumped up on the customer service, now I get random $1 off coupons because they're "late". Most of my items now arrive within 2 weeks. Fastest I've gotten was something I want to say 8 days. I remember back then it was hit or miss and sometimes it would take up to 2 months. I've received someone's whole order two years ago and they promptly refunded me and I still got my missing items.

I made a Temu account and an order to try it out. Man, the site is difficult, though.

The fake deals and attempted time pressure are annoying, they're really pushing the mobile phone app, and unless I missed it, there's no "wishlist" or save for later function. I'm assuming that's by design, so people add the thing they were looking for to their cart and then feel like they "have to" add more things to make the minimum free shipping order.

Are any of the consumer Chinese import sites more set up for a slow user, or are they all doing the overt psychological pressure pricing/shopping?

I was using eBay for parts, supplies and cheap tat, and before that DealExtreme which was janky back then and is gone now.

Unfortunately not, you can save sellers which is handy if you find a good item like quilting cloth. i'd recommend running a adblocker if you haven't got one already or use brave it blocks a lot of the obnoxious flashing pokie machine style advertising.

Not sure for everyone else but after awhile i just tune out the time pressured deals, just add what you want into your cart and leave it until you have enough for the minimum shipping price, you can always try and get a "credit" if another seller has it a few cents cheaper or basically commit fraud and just claim it was broken or some shit so you you can get your refund and keep the item there is a dollar amount limit on it but I've saved easily $10 or $15 every time i put an order through.

This is what I figured I'd do, so I'm glad it's the accepted method!

Ignore anything that looks like it's a timed thing. Ignore the 'specials'. Look for just what you want, and get that. (Good source for sewing supplies/notions, unless you want the really high-end stuff. Otherwise it's exactly what you get at the fabric/craft stores, just less expensive.)

I was saddened by the markup for iron-on reflective tape (in cool shapes) at eBay and was unsurprised to find the same photos used on Temu listings.

For a quarter of the price no doubt. Somethings are still expensive, but i did get a good sized secure car seat for my dog. He's a retard and screeches if can't sit in the front with me or the other half so we needed something enclosed enough he won't go flying in a crash.
