Should Big Al's board be collapsed to a single thread?

Subforums within subforums (deathfats --> chantal) suck for navigation and layout, but with some lolcows and the community's growth it is unfortunately starting to look sensible.

If necessary I think she could have a few different threads, like Chantal’s med sperging and art threads. But she doesn’t need a sub forum and nor does Chantal.

TBH, I would support expanding more deathfats (heh) into subforums of Deathfats proper, including turning this into one, rather than collapsing the thread.

Fuckoff-huge 5000 page threads suck. Following them is terrible when missing a day puts you 20 pages behind. I gave up on Chantal's thread because I didn't read it for a couple days and suddenly it was unfollowable, and most of those posts aren't even interesting. Huge threads are horrible to search and keep track of occurrences in -- any common term will get thousands of hits. If Amberlynn was collapsed into a single thread, it'd be what -- 3k, 5k, 7k pages? 10k? Just unreadable, even when she's slowing down. Not to mention you'd get about 50 pages of "amber is so boring now!!!!!" for each time anything actually worthwhile comes up, and those are just the fucking worst.

Simultaneously, it's fair to note Amber doesn't necessarily deserve front page real estate at this point. The board collapsed into a thread would be unnavigatable, but the board as a front page board just exposes a slower cow to a noobier audience. It also creates the perceived unfairness with currently more popular cows like Chantal being confined to a single thread. I think the more reasonable path would be to move the Amber board from the main page to Deathfats as a subforum, and to create additonal Deathfats subforums for Chantal et al to organize those topics better.

Idk if admins have any sort of activity statistics for the forums, but I'd say in the last couple of years this forum has had real activity 2-3 months per year. 2020 was the cancer saga, this year the dumping/Wifey saga. That's it. If the forum will have activity only 3 months max per year, it shouldn't be front page. Otoh, when stuff does happen, things move pretty quickly and a single thread would be a nightmare to navigate.

I vote for subforum and merge some of the threads like e. g. the new videos threads. No need for a separate one for each vid, one thread for all will suffice. Merge all the orbiter/friends/family threads. General + SM can stay separate, as they are both pretty big. Everything else (health speculation, nasty thread, picture threads, etc) goes into a Misc sperging thread.

This is the best idea so far, imo. Could be a good option for Chantal's thread as well. As other farmers have pointed out, if you miss a day or two it's fucking maddening trying to catch up.

Honestly this and DSP's general discussion. If you thought Chantal's thread was hell after a few days, the DSP one is impossible. I do think though the common argument out of this is that the Chantal General is hellish to follow.

I do agree that merging or collapsing down deathfats into years/sagas would make it at least approachable. I think this entire question is born out of the frustration of the Chantal thread though since the 2 cross-pollinate.

I don't know about collapsing a bunch of threads together. But since MOST viewers who watch amber also watch Chantal. I think it would be a great idea to just have an amber/chantal subforum merge. Basically just keep ambers subforum and add a little slash so it's AMBER/CHANTAL. So we can add threads for chantal in here.

@mikal That actually does make a lot of sense and it contains the Reddit people too. Since they only come here for Chantal and Amber. This is actually my favorite suggestion yet because it is 2 birds with one stone.

I agree. The general discussion thread (maybe a seperate thread for the most recent stream) and the amberisms thread should be enough. People who want the nasty thread can either fuck off, or post that in spoilers in the general discussion imo.
