I can 100% believe that she's nuts and he's an idiot who has no idea how to deal with her.

Yeah, despite the propaganda push of the last few years that "sex worker" is a heckin' valid profession, most pornstars are -- obviously -- psychological powderkegs who usually had a host of issues even before they decided to start fucking on camera for money. But dangling a pornstar in front of a nerd is like offering a chunk of bloody red meat to a starving tiger. Most of them will be too famished to say no.

They don't realize that after the big finish, there is a whole person there that has wants, needs and desires. If you're lucky it's to watch Master Chef and hold hands. If you're unlucky and if you're dating a pornstar you're already unlucky. It's to destroy your kitchen, because she's upset about something she dreamed about or there is no blow so she's dealing with withdrawal. Nerds can handle the former, not the latter.

So Butcher is an idiot for being involved with this woman, but I guarantee he thought he was the luckiest guy in the world until it all fell apart. However, all that being said. I am still excited for a new Dresden Files novel.

Oh, sure, I wasn't attacking Jim personally. I would probably make the exact same mistake, and if he was a fan of Justine Joli before they met ... well, let's just say I'd sympathize even more.

His second marriage (didn't last long iirc) was to a cosplay girl so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he pretty much followed the most predictable evolution of nerd fame imaginable. That said everyone was age appropriate - even the porn star was 40 so I don't really care other than finding the meltdown entertaining.

For me the funniest part of the story, though it may be a coincidence, is that one of the chapters in Peace Talks (released almost exactly one year before his own polycule blew up) involves an unnecessary wish fulfillment-esque scene where it is revealed that Jedi Knight Butters is in a polyamorous relationship with not one but two hot bisexual werewolf babes.

He just got married again to a fellow author so it seems like hopefully he has figured out that fiction =/ reality.

I was just wondering what opinions are about Roger Zelazny. Admittedly he's more fantasy than sci-fi. I had read his Chronicles of Amber series (the Corwin cycle) back when I was a teen in the 1980s and found the books recently when I was culling my library.

I'm tempted to re-read them as I remember enjoying them quite a bit, but I'm afraid they won't hold up.
The first five Amber books are absolutely top notch. The next series of five are pretty mixed.

The Unicorn Variations collection of short stories is great.

Lord of Light is absolutely S-tier.

Damnation Alley is kind of trashy but really enjoyable.

He wrote a lot of shit and almost all of it was really fun.

That's awesome -- after I clear the current backlog, I'll start up with the Corwin cycle. I'll look into the others as well.

Always wondered why Zelazny never got much in the way of Hollywood treatment. Outside of Damnation Alley -- which I understand to be a loose adaptation -- I don't think there are any other movies based on his work.

I mean today, that's a good thing. I wouldn't want to see his stuff mangled by Current Year politics.

Ah if you enjoyed that series, you should give this a try:

(That series had got me to really want to read Zelazny.)
