The word "kike" is derived from the Yiddish word kikel, meaning "circle." This is likely due to Jewish immigration through Ellis Island in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Normally, illiterate immigrants would sign their name with an "X," but Jews, believing the "X" looked too much like a cross and was too associated with Christianity, signed with an "O" instead. Immigration officers thus began referring to Jews as "kikes," but it wasn't considered a slur until the 1910s, when German Jews used the term to derogatorily refer to Russian Jews (source 1, source 2)

In short, it is a word that belongs to the Jewish people (you can still call them "kiks" if you wish.)
