it smacks of the rifle cult that the US army and USMC have always had. We used to get really good rifles out of it at least. Springfield 1903, great rifle. M16A2, great target rifle. Even the M14 was a great rifle for accurate fire out to 1,000 for targets the size of a man. plus it has great sights. M1 has great sights too.

problem is MIC graft and the vestiges of this cult has chosen a poor rifle. The silents and early boomers that designed the above rifles are all aged out leaving young boomers and gen X in charge who just have the inkling of atrophied memories of the rifle cult. Big round = good rifle for example. so we get a shitty rifle with bad sights, poor construction and a round that could be good if it was left to bake in the oven a few years longer.

they really should have just went with .270 WSSM. it's short action and has the same performance as the 6.8 (same caliber). just throw the NGSW bullet in there and go. the development is done.

But then you don’t get to grift the government (and by extension the taxpayer) out of millions of dollars for cartridge development costs.
WSSM has issues with being a barrel burner. The smaller the round the worse it gets. .243 and .223 WSSM are known to have sub 1000 shot barrel life due to excessive throat wear. Unless they have some advanced barrel material to super secret cooler burning powders .277 furry is likely having the same issue. I have no data on it but I would guess an M7/M8 barrel is shot out in about 5000 rounds which about 1/3 the life of an M4 barrel.

The fuck is up with the boomers at Simpson lately? I was browsing thru the last week or so of shit in their new stock and some of their prices are fucking wack.
I noticed anything that's an accessory is just a standard "$100" and up no matter what it is, just going by perceived quantity. It's a bit silly.
But then you see some really good shit that's crazy underpriced... but nobody would actually want it.

Boomers are getting funnier. I hate poor fags. Not because people with out a lot of money are bad, but this behavior. I put a 50 dollar stock on a 500 dollar gun it's worth 750!

Had a good range day after work, bumped into the cool old fags (boomers) started talking niche calibers and they invited me over to hang chat shoot a few rounds. Thought my MAS 36 was neat, and asked about how to load it (IE ammo).

Sanity check: Is there any need for anything more than basic bitch XM193 for AR-15 defensive ammo?
Unless you have some insane barrel-length or rifling twist combination that makes it not work (keyhole etc.), but if there even is such a thing (never heard of it myself) it'd be so niche that you'd have to do it on purpose. Within your house you'll be fine at any rate.

Do you live in a condo/apartment? If so I perfer the heavier frang ammo 55 gr.
I'm in a SFD I have hand loads, but speer gold dot has some real nice 62g ammo.
On the sling, I have another mag of that and something something plate delete ammo that I don't own. wink wink.

193 and M855 are dog shit designed for a war that never happened and compliance with The Hague Convention. Both perform like absolute dogshit on unarmored targets while zipping through too much dry wall.

MK262 and its clones are the way to go.

Need not really, but it's also probably not ideal. My theory is expanding hunting ammo suited for hogs and aim for the intruders pelvic bowl. In that vein between a few of us we've shot a significant number of hogs with AAC sabre ammo and it works on a hog size animal just fine. Now if you're shooting a coyote side on it will on occasion zip through without expanding so maybe not ideal for crackheads,

I will be selling my Gen 5 G19 and assorted accoutrements to buy a new carry pistol. Why? I can conceal a full size, and most of the time I'm open carrying anyway so that doesn't really matter. I handled my friend's 92FS the other day and really liked the way it felt, so that's leading me to want a full size DA/SA steel frame.

My choices seems to be: 92FS, 1911, or some CZ variant. Are there any I'm missing? Any I should outright avoid (besides dirt cheap 1911's)? I'd be fine with anything 9mm or The Lord's Caliber.

Edit: I would really want an HK USP but that's slightly out of my price range.

The 92FS has an aluminum frame, it's just really fat unless you get one with a Vertex frame like an M9A3.
The 1911 is a solid choice, but actually shooting it and inducing wear is the key to a properly cycling pistol. Springfield and Ruger are a solid starting point for serious use but trainers and match organizers try to dissuade the use of the 1911 at all due to occasional stoppages they witness daily. I don't dislike them but at the same time I would probably just carry a revolver.
CZs are good but I hate the firing pin retainer being a rollpin. I've seen three different videos of the pin breaking during a pistol match and sending the firing pin out the rear.

Even without the steel frame? The HK45 and P30 both felt good to me, they're essentially a modernized USP even if the finger grooves aren't to everyone's liking.

I guess I'd sacrifice the steel frame aspect if it felt good enough. Polymer would even be fine. Just a full size DA/SA. Thanks for the info on the CZ rollpin, didn't even notice that at first. Seems to be an easy thing to upgrade and replace so it becomes less of an issue.

I currently have a P-09 F Nocturne open in the next tab. Of course, I won't know until I get to the shop and hold a few.

Because the firing pin impacts it each time there are trade-offs in going to a stronger material. It either simply wears out slower or damages the firing pin itself.
As opposed to the 1911 which uses the firing pin spring and a retaining plate to keep it in, CZ decided to use a shit ass rollpin. It's retarded and the Shadow 2 doesn't have it so they're aware of the issue.

Some people love to overthink the hell out of this shit and give you a hundred what-if scenarios, but 55gr FMJ will absolutely do what you need it to at typical home defense distances (25 yards and in) out of any common barrel length. If you want to try to minimize penetration through walls and whatnot, consider a cheap soft point. Not sure how much they go for these days, but PMC Bronze 55gr soft points were really cheap pre-covid.
