I'll give Rockstar/Take Two this. They know that everybody would want to install GTA VI at once, so their forward thinking was to allow pre-loading a week before launch to prevent leaks and spoilers. Most importantly, it can help with preventing server overload. That's smart; I see where they're coming from. While not having a physical disc in a physical release sucks, it's necessary to make sure that everybody experiences it at once.

I just remembered that all these people looking to download/install GTA VI would cause server disruptions or overload. Spacing it out like this should help with that strain.

The talk of Rockstar making billions off of GTA VI misses some of the forest for the trees IMO. What the bean counters aren't concerned about is making bank off the game (they will) or being able to successfully whore it out through piecemeal offerings (like multiplayer) and microtransactions (it's guaranteed): it's selling their target amount within the preorder window and first day release. Rockstar doesn't sell the necessary number of copies or achieve the review score demanded? T2I will be liquidating a good chunk of the team and selling the move as calibrating for future development - i.e. their next gen multiplayer cash cow.

These rootless corporate interests only care in meeting arbitrary benchmarks so managers and the c-suite can get their quarterly bonus. If GTA VI misses those benchmarks (which it likely will) expect a lot of PR fluffing explaining how employee slashing and burning is paving the way towards stable growth and meeting market demand. What will be missed among the competitors is how Rockstar's model is the summit and anyone else trying for a similar mass injection of brown hand gamer cash to flesh out the accounting books will be sorely disappointed.

It's possible, but I (hopefully) would not see them doing that. GTA V making $1 billion in three days was lightning in a bottle. There's no way they, or any company, could reach that benchmark again. If that's what they're expecting, then perhaps they deserve to go under.

Any interest I had in the game has immediately died. Friend told me it's 80 bucks, which was fucking ultra deluxe price back then AND has no physical disc. Fuck GTA VI.

Part of me thinks there is no way this game is not going to break every record imaginable. However, console gaming is not what it used to be. Major publishers like Capcom make their majority revenue on PC now. I do hope Rockstar will get punished for this decade old garbage policy. At least I am hoping it is not going to be as successful as it was in the past. Especially not if the game is 30fps on consoles. No PC gamer is going to double dip for a 30fps game in current year. Also Sony is kinda hated these days and Xbox is a joke/dead. It is going to be an interesting launch for sure.
