I don't think they're taking their arguments from them but the mentality is kinda similar. It's the same sort of mental illness that makes women get rib-removal surgery.
When feminists say that a lot of the looks people who "don't like plastic surgery or makeup" are only achievable via those means, it's as a pro natural beauty stance. They are saying people need to analyze their expectations of women's appearance instead of just pretending cosmetics don't exist.

When incels say they need to get jaw surgery to be perceived as attractive it's as a pro plastic surgery mentality, because they cannot imagine being treated as men have treated ugly women for centuries.

This has probably been said already, but Jirai Kei is very unnerving to me even as most of my 'friends' seem to be into it. I liked the Kogal aesthethes but there's something deeply sinister about the whole subculture. It reminds me a lot of the Columbiner community, which I did fall for when I was younger, so I'm more than aware on how these retards get.
It reminds me of emo and scene, in that it has the same le edgy aesthetics glorifying or playing with self-harm and mental illness, which probably isn't that big a deal as long as they don't actually do it (reminds me of TikTok kiddies pretending to have Tourettes and DID and actually catching some sort of socially contagious mental illness that isn't actually either of those conditions), but the dirty older men hanging round it all do creep me out. Consequences will never be the same.

I don't wanna get cancelled for hating gays or whatever but I miss it when female aimed media had decent f/m romances. Nowadays, the women are peak independent that somehow make time for a female love interest while the world ends but god forbid she hooks up with a man. For what it's worth, I do support lgb people. But if you're making a commercial work aimed at all women, you're bound alienate a lot of normies by doing so.
While we're at it, I think the representation of men in media has a lot to do with it, too. If you write a story where the women are capable and the men are terrible/lazy/useless, then the men aren't attractive. Straight women don't usually tend to be attracted to useless men.
Even Naveen from Princess and the Frog - himbo that he is - is still shown to be someone who is capable and willing to change to improve himself as a person.
You know who I still really love? Fox and David Xanatos from Gargoyles. That relationship was so good and so well-written I remember it even now. The writers of that show really did a great job with what they made, and they did so in a way that was in accordance with the philosophy of "Children's shows aren't just for kids, they're also for their parents, and for the adults those children will become."

In a way it seems oddly sexist? To feel threatened by what women truly love because how dare these whores love men who capable and not using their strength to hurt women, clearly there's a deeper motive behind it? Maybe that's why my hair bristles at most f/f rep because I know the guys behind it greenlit it since two women are better than their waifu being ravaged by a good looking man. It reeks of jealousy that I don't get by actually lesbian and bi women (unless you're a femcel mad hetty Betty won't eat you out but lol)

Damn, you know what? I think you're on to something here. It's like the people behind these things feel some kind of weird compulsion to compete with non-existent men.

Something I always liked in American Dad was that both Stan and Francie are both attractive and also stupid. They make a fun pair because of it, and they even have a whole episode showing how much time and effort Francine puts into her appearance. It's not treated like "Oh she just looks like that naturally."

Wow, I had to look these up since I'm way past following the Japanese styles but these are pretty out there. I can understand why you find them unnerving.

... And Western girls / women wearing these sorts of things also don't really tend to come off as sane. There are just some aesthetics that really drive home the 'this person probably has some mental issues' vibe. At least if the wearer is a teen they tend to grow out of it though...

And as for trends I'm hating - that '90s revival that's going on right now (except the wide pants because those I've never stopped liking and sometimes I'm a simple gal). Also the insanely short skirts that are a thing here right now. Like, cool that you want to wear a skirt, but halfway between the crotch and knees seems to be a good length if you want to keep it mini. Not at the length that when you wear tights the tights 'pants' area sticks out. Ugh.

I hate low rise pants and skirts, especially combined with short tops. They'll give anyone a muffin top unless you have like 2% body fat. There's a reason celebrities from that era all had eating disorders: it was the only way for them to wear the current styles and not look sloppy.

I saw a woman at the store yesterday in full Y2K fashion, tramp stamp included, and it burned my fucking eyeballs. She wasn't even overweight and would have looked fine if not for the clothes. Nobody looks good in this shit, not even the body type it was meant for, but if you have any hips/butt at all it looks downright awful.

I hate that this shit is making a comeback, because just 10 years ago we all agreed it was a terrible idea.

I saw Juicy Couture velour tracksuits in TK Maxx the other day. I thought the point of nostalgic trend revivals was that we left all the crap in the past and only brought back the good stuff. Next it'll be whale tail thongs and Kappa.

Related to jirai kei, apparently there's a trend called "jersey maid", where "jersey" is what japs call tracksuits and athleisure wear, and people are wearing trackies with gothic lolita frilly french maid headdresses now?

I do like that the kids seem to be doing DIY and thrifting like previous generations did, though, as well as getting cheap shit off Shein. There's some mad results but it's interesting and I'm happy for them trying things out and learning crafts and being creative.

Since Halloween is around the corner, there’s this push by booktok goons to sexualize Ghostface and make ripped dudes shirtless with the masks on posting thirst traps. It spread into other medias where I see fanart of characters wearing the scream mask shirtless. And it’s weird and not hot at all JUST STOP. 😭

I personally think inappropriately skimpy costumes that make no sense for men are far too overdue.

Kappa's already made a comeback here. I legit saw a neon fluorescent pink Kappa pants dude earlier this week and it hurt my eyeballs. It was specifically the type of pants that had the press buttons on the side. I really didn't need these to make a revival either...

Winter is coming and I gonna whine about sport fashion again a bit.
Why do the sport jackets have to be so short? They make a super warm fleece jacket, but it ends a bit under the waist, one can't even sit without having a gap that lets the cold in. Likely because one is supposed to wear leggings or skinny fit pants and buy a sport skirt that goes over it. But that's one more thing around the waist, also I guess it rolls up and otherwise doesn't stay in its place, and I like loose pants anyway (also, not much available).
There are more long jackets recently, but the design is always somehow half-assed, like no two-way zipper, unzippable pockets, no ventilation around armpits in windbreakers, or some fugly color I'm just not gonna wear etc.

Speaking of Winter Fashion, never liked the "cold girl" shit where you just plaster your face in blush and highlighter to look like you're borderline frostbitten. I always wondered if people ACTUALLY did this? Because what is your face looking like when you go inside and work at a desk for 8 hours?

Edit: Im retarded and this was mentioned in page one but it's relevant.

I think this fits better here than in "fashion trends you think suck": ruffly clothing and wispy ponytails on babies and toddlers doesn't look cute, it looks crackheaded. Babies and toddlers are much cuter with hair trimmed so that it's all even and full than desperately growing out whatever patches are longest just so that you can pull those three strands into a tiny palmtree ponytail. At worst, it looks like she has to spend time with her scalp pulled painfully while her brothers go play, and at best, if she is running around playing all day, the braid falls apart and gets scraggly. It never looks as nice as a manageable bob or simple ponytail the girl can redo on her own.

Ruffles always get mashed and mushed as kids play, and even those stupid shoulder ruffles never look as nice after being washed unless you steam them into shape again. But because it looks nice in the store, people keep falling for it. There's so much that a little girl can look cute and, if it's important to you, girly in that can stand physical play and naps and machine washes, but it sure isn't popular right now where I am.

Almost all of the girl toys in my local supermarket aisle are related to just straight up consumerism, it's always some blind box that you need to collect all of, and then get extra accessories to dress it up with.
I’m glad someone else sees this. The girl toys are almost all about buying stuff, or looking a certain way, or getting attention. So stuff like ‘be famous and beautiful’ or ‘collect all this’. The focus is on being passive and gaining attention.
In contrast the boy toys are far more skewed towards DOING things - building, shooting, rescue vehicles etc. You have agency, boys! Girls just look pretty!
The damn cartoons are the same - contrast something like paw patrol or transformers with the fame academy /group popularity type stuff aimed at girls. Now I know that paw patrol is a shameless vehicle to sell vehicles (lol) but at least the message is to be a good person and actively help.
I’m lucky I think in that for years I just bought toys that all of them could DO stuff with like LEGO or paints etc. I didn’t really consciously realise why, just looked at a lot of the pink aimed stuff and thought it looked shit.
The clothes as well - the girl jeans are skimpily cut. Little girls of course want to be pretty and there is nothing at all wrong with a frothy princess frock, or lashings of pink sparkles, but there’s not enough innocent, decent body coverage and far too much skimpy. Girls should be able to have practical pink sparkly stuff that’ll stand up to climbing a tree. I once saw a playboy bunny printed on a crop top aimed at pre teens. Utterly wrong.

See, even if you're just reading it for the articles, you need to at least be aware of what goes on in the rest of the magazine! Otherwise you end up buying your 11 year old daughter the playboy bunny crop top and don't even realize what's wrong with it!

Whatever trend is making the women in Hollyweird remove the buccal fat. It doesn't make you look good, it makes you look like a starvation patient!

The way females are "expected" to like pop music, like Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, and all these other shit head musical trends.

I was and am a huge metal fan, but I also hate hate hate the "I'm not like other girls" crap that surrounds it.

Does this make sense? It's hard to articulate. I'm sick to death of popular culture.
