No, IBS doesn’t count as a chronic illness. It won’t get you disability and you’re more than able to work with it.

IBS is a weird diagnosis, it just means you have a nervous tummy sometimes with your tummy getting upset for no definable medical reason. You don’t have stomach cancer, you don’t have chrohns, you just get the shits and stuff but you’re fine.

Normal people learn to control it over time. You might get up an hour earlier to allow time for running to the bathroom 5 times. You might not be able to eat without being ill until later in the day. You learn which foods you can’t tolerate, often things like onion and tomato.

The best medication for the condition is peppermint. No joke. If you’re prescribed anything, it’s likely to be peppermint oil capsules.

It’s an unpleasant condition that can come with pain and feeling like crap but it’s more of an inconvenience than a disability or chronic illness.

Neither is it something people discuss all the time. Unless you’re Staph and have an obsession with shit.
