Anyone here listen to NPR on Monday (2021/3/15)? They had Chase Strangio on, and until hearing her talk it was always a little difficult for me to think of her as female. I guess they just couldn't find a single person who thought that children shouldn't transition or that men and teenage boys shouldn't be competing in sports against women and teenage girls.
Also, has anyone here watched SuperJail? It was an AdultSwim cartoon from about ten years ago and as you might have guessed from the title, it takes place in a jail. The reason I bring this up is that the security guard is a tranny named Alice. Now, when I first watched it I hadn't come even close to peaking, other than seeing a couple pass by on the street (at the time I'd assumed that I only noticed the particularly poorly passing ones and that I'd probably passed by dozens without even realizing it) so I thought it was a little mean to trans women, but not out-of-line for an over-the-top intentionally offensive show like SuperJail.
Looking back on it now though, Alice is an incredibly accurate portrayal of an AGP.

The problem with calling something a "social construct" is that on some level almost anything can be defined as a social construct. It's kind of my go-to, but tallness is a real quantifiable thing, but is also a social construct.
Almost everything is defined in specific contexts and loses meaning when put into other contexts and while the appropriate context usually makes sense, even that is based on our own minds and it's hard (in fact impossible) to figure out what human concepts are or are not social constructs.
So yes, gender is a social construct, and some people conclude that that makes it meaningless. Others assume that because you think that gender is a social construct you must think that gender is meaningless or otherwise unquantifiable.
I keep meaning to do a big writeup in the SRS or parents of trans kids threads about hormone blockers so i wont get too into it, but far as ive researched there havent been any studies that specifically look at the long term effects on children/teens, and yet i have found pamphlets from US government medical agencies that say hormone blockers are a "reverseable treatment option". Genuinely concerned parents are being actively lied to on multiple fronts.
You'll have trouble finding stuff on HRT for teens, but there's a good amount of stuff on GnRH agonists, but only if you specifically avoid the trans-related stuff. It used to be given to children suffering from precocious puberty (or some girls who stopped getting taller too young) and it ended up being a huge disaster and we have plenty of studies and documentation of those cases.

For example, women being (on average) more agreeable than men are. Kid was born a boy, then decides he's a girl despite not changing his behavior or anything. Woke Mommy decides that kid's troonery is retroactive, so he was always a girl, therefore she 'mistakenly' raised him as a boy.

Gender, for the longest time, has simply been a euphemism to mean "sex" without invoking the "sexual intercourse" imagery, because it is fucking gross and unnecessary to talk about the sexed roles of a child or a professional in the workplace etc.
