Animal Crossing: New Horizons - It's hard to convince people that I'm not a furry after telling them I like Animal Crossing.

I swear to god my island is the land of undesirables. How the fuck did I land both CHOPS and MOOSE in one sitting?
I got Chops via the mandatory campsite move-in. Son of a bitch deliberately rubbed against me while I was trying to craft bait last night so I ended up talking to him on accident. Then today he kept attempting to chase me down to talk to me more. Fuck off you undercooked pile of bacon.

Apple's another villager on my shitlist. She was a randomized move-in from the initial 3 new villagers. Ever since she moved in she's been nothing but a gigantic asshole to just about every other village on my island. I want both of their heads on a fucking pike.

Even this boggles my mind. The only things I know of people can do on another person's island is catch bugs or fish. Can you even pick flowers or fruit? And if you're overrun you can just close the gate and kick everyone out, right?

I'm actually asking because everyone I've invited had been from here and as has been said ad nauseum already, everyone here is just lovely :heart-full:

We made the mistake first week of opening gate to pretty much anyone for Daisy Mae and advertising it on leddit. Which I mean, I figured it was nice to do cuz some people were not far enough to get Daisy in a few days.

To be fair - nobody was outwardly a dick. But when unmoderated the main issue is more...

- If you haven't brought the spotlight items from nooks before opening the gates - anyone can buy it which then swaps to sold out

-People can pick your flowers, deplete your island daily resources (wood, fruit, rocks) or dig up your day's allocation of fossils

-Some people think it's a-ok to make 4-5 visits for turnip sales and purchases without asking first

-The online is a bit of a nightmare if your dodo code is public. Due to the entry/exit being so long (much as I like the flyover) - pretty much every 10 seconds you get "Please end" messages for arrivals and departures. Which makes just getting to the airport and asking for the gate to be closed a bit of a struggle in it's own right

By week two the people running for the general stalk market were adding literal borders so you couldn't mosey on in without providing promised goods.

Also if someone could hook me up with a discord invite, that would be mighty neat of y'all.

In lieu of making bridges for such out of the way areas, I terraformed little nubs across the top of the river mouths so I can just hop over them instead of having to whip out the vaulting pole, and I swear the villagers go out of their way to park their asses right in front of those land nubs so I can't use them.
Ah, the Beggar's Bridge. They're all over the place on my island.

Unrelated, but Nook Mile Tickets are the fucking best. Not because they're useful - but because other people will pay ridiculous sums for them. I saw one person unironically offering 300,000 bells per NMT. I couldn't help but feel sorry, like that person was scamming themself.

Getting 3mil for ten tickets was aces though

(Also, a discord invite would be amazing)

Those looking for somewhere to exchange turnip prices are welcome to the thread Discord. We always alert each other of good turnip prices, and there's a pretty free exchange of new furniture/DIYs.

Unfortunately Discord is a piece of shit and won't allow even vaguely anonymous accounts, immediately trying to enforce phone verification whenever it even sniffs something funny, so I can't really join.

Just caught both a Oarfish and a Coelacanth within the space of a minute. Blathers is going to have a field day.

It’s rained on my island a grand total of once in the whole time I’ve had it up and running, and the only other time it’s happened is when I was on a mystery island which had rubbish fish spawns. No coelacanths for me anytime soon *sigh*

Caught mine on my own island during the rain and at the same beach as the Oarfish all with under a minute. Still amazed.

Guys, I just got a new villager SPROCKET!!!

There’s also a new villager at my campsite, so that’s fun!

I think it is interesting to have a Discord invite if anyone is willing.

I had the same issue with rain so I stocked up bait (a few stacks) and the next time it rained I got coelacanth on the 5th bait or so.

Also Tasha just moved in with that amazing storm wallpaper holy shit I want that

non-important edit: Able sisters have Fedora if anyone wants one

I tried to do the tarantula island thing last night and got... mixed results. Tarantulas did show up, but I only managed to net 2 of them and the other 10 made me faint. I did try making a hole barrier, but couldn’t get my character to jump over them to safely fast enough. I downsized the holes to just 4 in a diamond pattern, but as soon as I jumped in a fucking tarantula somehow got inside and bit me.

Any tips on how to catch these things? I really only got lucky with the 2 I got (snuck up behind one, the other was because my reflexes were fast enough to net it right as it jumped at me). Does the hole trick work and I’m just doing it wrong?

Dont hold your net out, it aggravates them.

Jumping holes can be tricky if you panic, practice at home. But I'm on Scorpions so I wouldn't know the difference (they aren't hard to deal with and I don't think there's an Island for them?)

I can't help but wonder if some animal types are programmed to sing more cause whenever a villager on Vinny's stream starts to sing it's always Jacques and birds are known for singing.
Interesting theory, anedoctal evidence from my island shows that Zell sings every single day, has a piano in his room and goats are known for being loud.

Renee and especially Rosie sing a shit-ton. Rosie sort of makes sense in that she talks about wanting to be a pop star or something, and cats can be vocal, but a rhinoceros? Especially since she dresses and acts like a schoolgirl delinquent. I dunno, maybe there's a lipstick lesbian aching to explode out of her at any minute.

Related, do villager activities (like singing, specifically) respond to your Reactions to them? I try to be Delighted or Joyful at Rosie whenever she sings because it's cute and she seems to appreciate it but it has me wondering if villagers will do activities more/less depending on how you respond.

One time I caught a duet between Antonio and Zucker at the plaza. Marina seems very fond of singing near water, saw her at the beach and another time by the river.
