It's a Narcissist thing. If they stick to telling their warped version of reality, and repeat it often enough, eventually others will start to accept it as true. Depending upon the individual Narcissist, and how plausible their warped version of reality is, this strategy can actually work. But not for Russell.
I worked with a narcissist. Always warped and twisted everything, no matter how implausible. Utterly awful guy, rude, vulgar, and abusive. He looked basically like Sloth from The Goonies but 8 months pregnant. Constantly calling people fat and bald even though he was both.
Always claiming he owned multiple local businesses and fleets of Corvettes and Cadillacs. Harassing women and bragging about his conquests when he's a virgin in his 40s. Even insisting he's taller than I am, while standing side by side, with him about 4 inches shorter. Flying into a violent screaming rage when anyone disputed one of his outlandish claims.
Russ reminds me a lot of him. His future doesn't look very bright.
