A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Remember folks, the police initially said they gave medical help within minutes. Judging by the timeline they absolutely didn't.

I'm actually astounded they actually DID give some medical attention because the way the bodycam was cut off, it really made it look like they were covering the rest of it up.

Oh they did give medical attention, problem is they gave the absolute worst medical attention you can give to someone who has been stabbed in the chest.

If only there was some way they could’ve known to check for a stab wound, if only someone could’ve told them, possibly had made it his dying words.

For fucks sake after hearing this I can easily believe that Digwa got traumatized witnessing the police finish off a man just because they believed him and that’s why he’s on suicide watch. Even a subhuman would slowly have its percolate through his brain that he’s witnessing police ensure a man he stabbed die and that he will go to jail for it, just because he lied and if he only told the truth the guy might have lived.

How do people deal with their partners having the complete opposite political views? Do you have a cuck chair for when they will vote for the green party?
The Right Wing one nods and goes "mmmm-hmm" non-committally, usually; because Right Wing people mostly think Left Wing people are misled or foolish, whilst Left Wing people mostly think Right Wing people are deliberately evil.

But it can be the other way around. Depends which one is most politically engaged, Leftist beliefs are often quite performative given that they tend to result from hyper-socialisation which means that away from other people, the Leftist may be more agreeable in private. Or not - depends how deep it runs.

Or sometimes politics is far enough below the relationship in importance that people agree to disagree - as I say, depends how politically engaged one or both are.

It can also be a factor of how publicly embarrassing one person finds their other partner's beliefs. If someone's partner privately thinks differently, many people will just ignore it. But if they show up amongst their friends and talk about "transwomen are women" or "hang all immigrants" it can create friction because of that. Though again, see earlier comment about Right v. Left perceptions for reasons why one might be more prone to that embarrassment than the other.

I think the real patterns emerge as a matrix between Male-Female and Right-Left. Right Wing woman with Left Wing husband is going to have a different predominant outcome / method than Right Wing husband and Left-Wing woman. Same for the other quadrants. In general.

Biggest challenge is likely to come about if you have kids with them. When you both want to teach them different things.

So I'm in the pub, sat at a table waiting for the Ingurland game, and the bar guy has just come over and put one of those "reserved" cardboard things on my table while I'm sat here. Is this legal? I feel like this is something that was mentioned in magna carta.
Eat it, while maintaining unbroken eye contact with whomever placed it there.

WTF is a "scran" and why is it all over my world cup feed you faggots?
Scran means food. It’s Norse in origin, from the words for junk/scraps of food. Scran implies food of a certain type, you wouldn’t use it for fancy food

Well, in my experience you get shut down and shushed and eventually you stop talking about it or giving your hateful opinions at all.

Oh.
Maternity care is a fucking disgrace. Everywhere. I had a c section that was a train wreck, lost vast amounts of blood and was given paracetamol after. Well o say given paracetamol, I was told I would be given paracetamol but nobody ever brought me any, thankfully my husband was there and he went to the pharmacy and got me some, but o can’t imagine any other field where you could have major abdominal surgery that goes quite wrong, lose almost 4.5 pints of blood and then get zero pain relief after. Sit up, bitch and breastfeed. Not so much as an offer of a transfusion either.
I’d shoot the entire maternity care system I to orbit, you’d be better off at the vet. Literally my cat got better pain relief and post operative care than I did.
I know one woman who had her pelvis broken, and multiple who were permanently injured with forceps. It’s an absolute disgrace

I'm so sorry to hear that </3 I have heard so many horror stories and it's terrifying - especially when the mother's requests/consent is totally ignored, like with C-sections being sprung on people because the staff want to hurry things up. Apparently staff are more comfortable doing C-sections due to this, they don't get exposure to natural deliveries so don't know what to do when things go wrong. I don't especially want my stomach cut open, and especially not if I've told the medical professionals what my preference is but they don't see me as a human.

It’s snap. As in, food.

Fucking north east is leaking again.

Generally, one partner occasionally rants while the other sits in patient silence and nods along occasionally.

That is unless you have the kind of relationship where one partner gets violent when drunk, and politics is a trigger. In that case, you leave the scene, pronto.

Oh.

A friend just had a baby Darn Sarf. Absolute shitshow. Her waters broke at home, her contractions were strong, they told her to come to the hospital (half an hour drive), they kept her an hour and then sent her home. She was back within a couple of hours, of course, because labour. Then there were no beds. Then there were no rooms. She’d booked one of those birthing pools but of course the staff and room weren’t available. They left her almost 40 hours in labour before realising the baby was in the wrong position for birth and doing a cesarean. And all she had was gas & air until the surgery.

Now she has a newborn who needs attention every few hours, she’s two night’s sleep down already and recovering from major surgery. They sent her home in less than 24 hours.

Absolute fucking state of maternity care.

"Here at Wren, we love The Beautiful Game. And where better to watch it than in a beautiful new Wren kitchen..."

I'm sorry, what? I know every company is trying to associate themselves with football right now, but that's just pathetic. Low effort. Is there a more tenuous advert than this one?
