In my country we have right-wingers saying similar things about not voting for other right parties and coalesce around the Conservatives to beat "The Left".

It's an argument designed to trick you into voting against your interests, and believe it or not it works against some people. I was proud of the Bernie people for not showing up for the election or voting Trump as a F U to the Democrats back in 2016, and if there were any principled people left in the Democrat party, it would have happened again in 2020 when they did their midnight call to candidates to all drop out and endorse Joe to prevent Bernie from getting in.

If Americans really want political change they need to burn their votes on 3rd party candidates they agree with (or not vote at all if you cannot find anything in common) and encourage others outside of this mindset. If some Hearts of Iron-esque vidya situation occurs where the CPUSA is installed as the ruling party by the Democrats, it's not like you voting would have prevented that. Both major parties are controlled by the same people, they just want to destroy the country in different ways.

I've always voted third party until Trump and I'll probably vote 3rd party again after Trump. Independents can't win so long as people piss and moan about the two party system and then throw their vote at the 'lesser devil' instead of voting who they want because they're afraid of 'wasting their vote'. The only way to break the cult of parties and the two party system is to get people to start voting independent if they don't like the two primary candidates.

Unfortunately, before anyone can do that, they have to realize that the guy running around the town square screaming that the sky is falling if x party doesn't win this time is a schizo and should be ignored.

If you go back and watch W back when he first got his start in the late 70's and compare him against the W that was president, there's a marked difference between the two. All of the alcohol and drugs he did in the 80's fried him a bit. He eventually managed to clean himself up and actually quit drinking and snorting blow, which is more than can be said of some other son's of US presidents, but he suffered for it.

Cheney had his gloved arm so far up Bush's ass that it's rather difficult to determine how much of his presidency was really his own doing. He had a good apparatus around him, at least in terms of keeping him in power, but at the end of the day they were neocons and too concerned with picking the pockets of the American people on their way out than with building anything that could last.

A fair point. HW was arguably more effective in his short time in office. Personally I don't like either of them, though, and I'm glad Trump derailed their dynastic plans with Jeb. It's a shame that simply saying "well he wasn't stupid" can be interpreted as supporting him, but that's how it is, I guess.

2. Interruptions are permitted.
3. No commercial breaks.
4. Both candidates must be drunk during the debate.

I would replace rule 4 with:
4. A candidate must take a shot whenever they refer to their rival.

It will either be the most civil debate ever where they only talk about their own achievements or it would be the quickest debate ever because they would drink themselves to death in under 10 minutes.

Donating to politicians is one of the worst ways to waste your money. Even ones you like. I'm all in on Trump, I've been a Trumpamaniac for nearly a decade, but I've never given him a fuckin' dime. I ain't rich at all. And even if I were, I'd tie it all up into investments. Ten thousand dollars for a politician? I'd rather put that into a good ETF and watch it grow, so I'll have a nest egg for the next time shit hits the fan.

A two-party system transforming into a multi-party one is very uncommon, with the most recent example in the first world being late 2000s Spain. What you need is for a party to fuck up so bad that they explode, so that the rival party wins bigly, for that winning party to be deadlocked due to infighting, so that they explode too, and now you have a multi-party system. That's basically impossible to do in the US because the opportunities for that to happen were thwarted by the mainstream parties, like during the fall of the Whigs, Teddy's Moose Party, or the Civil Rights marches. So I find it very difficult to happen once again, even more so due to the stranglehold that some parties have over key areas of the country
