If you back them into a corner and confront them with proof of those past criticisms they'll say things like "Well I said my piece, now it's time for unity to stop the red."

In my country we have right-wingers saying similar things about not voting for other right parties and coalesce around the Conservatives to beat "The Left".

It's an argument designed to trick you into voting against your interests, and believe it or not it works against some people. I was proud of the Bernie people for not showing up for the election or voting Trump as a F U to the Democrats back in 2016, and if there were any principled people left in the Democrat party, it would have happened again in 2020 when they did their midnight call to candidates to all drop out and endorse Joe to prevent Bernie from getting in.

If Americans really want political change they need to burn their votes on 3rd party candidates they agree with (or not vote at all if you cannot find anything in common) and encourage others outside of this mindset. If some Hearts of Iron-esque vidya situation occurs where the CPUSA is installed as the ruling party by the Democrats, it's not like you voting would have prevented that. Both major parties are controlled by the same people, they just want to destroy the country in different ways.

Not sure if I am on the same wavelength as most of the Kiwis on here but I wasn't expecting the 2024 election to be serious and more and more my expectations have been met on that regard.

Politics in the West have become Oligarchs creating "serious guys" vs "over the top populists" in clown shows for the masses to vote for. Whether the stage managed harlequin who promises change is your guy/girl, or the respectable suit the media swoons for that your boomer mom thinks will save the country from, other respectable suits, nothing is going to change.

We should all just purchase our tickets and enjoy the circus. It's certainly not something worth losing a uterus

Why the downvotes? Crazy women NOT having children is a good thing! If you think that Trump winning means you're going to live in Gilead/the Sith are going to win/omg Voldemort returned you're a paranoid schizophrenic who is completely unfit for motherhood.

That was fast

W was never an idiot nor a simpleton. He was very intelligent. He simply spoke in a very relaxed and casual manner, which is contrary to how most presidents speak. He was the 'man who was unpresidential' before Trump. W was also not incompetent. He did exactly what he set out to do, which was conquest the middle east in the name of fighting terrorism. He only appeared to be incompetent because he pretended that wasn't what he was doing and the MSM spent all day every day in the news cycle calling him stupid.

If you go back and watch W back when he first got his start in the late 70's and compare him against the W that was president, there's a marked difference between the two. All of the alcohol and drugs he did in the 80's fried him a bit. He eventually managed to clean himself up and actually quit drinking and snorting blow, which is more than can be said of some other son's of US presidents, but he suffered for it.

Cheney had his gloved arm so far up Bush's ass that it's rather difficult to determine how much of his presidency was really his own doing. He had a good apparatus around him, at least in terms of keeping him in power, but at the end of the day they were neocons and too concerned with picking the pockets of the American people on their way out than with building anything that could last.

Not sure how my adblock got turned off but I literally just got an ad from "Act Blue" with a clip of Copmala begging for donations to defeat Flonald Blumpf again. I honestly can't remember seeing or hearing a political ad for any candidate that wasn't posted here anywhere before now. Ironically it says, "PAID FOR BY BIDEN VICTORY FUND." So yeah this is what is happening to that guy's $10K. Big shocker there...

When you search Act Blue on Google, the site summary that comes up says, "Official Kamala ActBlue - We need you with us. Donate to the new Kamala Harris campaign today. Every dollar counts." TBH I don't know what Act Blue is.

It's happening bros and sistahs.

Thinking it over, I suppose the Dems could find some avenues to try and salvage the situation. Trump's age now becomes a viable form of attack, but what the Dems really need (probably yesterday but that isn't important now) is strength - if the convention goes well and the party unites :optimistic: , the Dems could portray Kamala as a resilient underdog able to lead through tough times and she'd earn a fighter's chance that way. That'd even synergize with the black* girlboss thing they want to push.
Although the actions the Democrats have taken pre and post debate do not seem to be the actions of a party with a plan.

*Is Kamala even black? I'd have guessed swirl of white and Indian or something.

Isn’t it kind of odd how even when Joe Biden states that he’s going to step aside from the presidency and not seek re-election, no one really seems to care?

It almost made me realize that he should never have been POTUS in the first place, and the only reason he was elected (aside from potential voter fraud and ballot harvesting on the Democrat Party’s behalf) was based on reluctance and now they’re trying to silently ”take him out” so they can save face in the name of “democracy”, while essentially disenfranchising the voter base that “voted” for Joe Biden.

I truthfully was not even going to comment on this thread, but this is a real Red Pill™ moment for anyone on the political aisle. We don’t really have a choice in who we vote for, but even if we did, we can’t just vote our way out of this.

Using the “Well, at least he’s not Trump” excuse looks really shady and dumb in retrospect, since this party will now be looked at suspiciously in the months to come if they actually win with Kamala essentially being a ”diversity hire” that truthfully did not earn her position to the highest office in the land.

At this point is it even worth putting forward a candidate against Trump? They fucked the entire country so bad that there is no way even blue voters would believe the results if they rigged it again. I think they assumed that Biden would be able to last two terms before taking him out behind the barn. I guess he had one of his few moments of clarity and realized he's sick of being a puppet. He's beyond wealthy, he can claim the title of President, and he's already on death's door. Kamala was their backup plan but nobody likes her either.

I really can't think of any way Trump loses this election, but I guess I said the same thing when he ran against Biden. I wonder if they are genuinely considering not putting forward a candidate at all, calling this one a loss and spend the next four years propping up their next tool. After Trump I think Republicans are going to have a really hard time finding a replacement. They'll have a much easier time competing against whoever comes next, even if he is endorsed by Trump. Dr Oz got a Trump endorsement and he lost to a criminal with literal brain damage.

Just imagine it, Stephen Colbert walking onto his set and saying "America has two choices in front of it. Red. (He lets out an evil looking red toy lightsaber) Or blue. (He reveals and springs a blue lightsaber in his other hand) What do you think Luke would have chosen?"
I can already mentally see & hear this delivery. Amazing.

It would be really funny to make a Colbert parody show. Given Colbert is already a parody of O'Reily, it would be a double parody, or maybe a parody^2.

It would be pretty dumb to argue trump’s age when they were pushing someone even older just this morning.
