I’d also suspect that care for (actual) intersex patients would be quite different. Everything I’ve read (as a layperson) suggests that, if the condition is know at birth that you just leave that shit alone until the kid knows what he/she is and then deal with any corrective surgery/hormone issues. It’s not controversial, near as I can tell even most religions consider this just plain old medical care, not gender-special nonsense.

You're thinking of a different condition, which is indeed endemic to a population in Africa. These individuals have undescended testes (no ovarian tissue) and typically go through a limited male puberty. Ovotestes on the other hand only happen when an XX and an XY zygote fuse in the womb, and there's enough gonadal tissue from both embryos to spawn a line of cells whose genetic messages contradict each other. This is incredibly rare, although we lack actual statistics on chimerism. If the chimerism involves two same-sex embryos or a tissue type that's not the gonads, it's unlikely that it would ever be discovered.

Imo. If you have severe mental illness that's managed or have it expressed in your family it's a lot easier to get sterilized. I have a family friend who got her tubes tied at 25 because she had a schizophrenic brother, severely bipolar uncle, and multiple cases of severe low function autism in her family. She went to her Doctor and made it clear she wasn't willing to risk bringing more of that into the world and there was no argument about well you might change your mind.
