I am leftwing in terms of economics, but I hate what left wing parties have become on so many social issues. Be it; gender identity, euthanasia, defence of Islam, celebrating/supporting assassination and violence of those with different views (what kind, tolerant people). I even did a political compass test recently because I wondered if I had unknowingly become chudded. But despite despising much of what left wing parties represent now, I was very close to where I was when I was ten years younger - still leftwing.

Mass immigration is the newest batch of groupthink that has been activated and if you are against mass immigration in any capacity you are a mega racist.

I saw a couple of text conversations happening simultaneously praising a new Green MP for A) winning a by-election, B) for calling on making society fairer for ordinary people. Meanwhile her party are in favour of flooding the job market with hundreds of thousands of migrants and even oppose stopping illegal ones. How do you think an ordinary working class person's life will improve with a huge amount of "new Europeans" competing with them for all services and opportunities? Will their quality of life improve? Will they be able to get better access to housing? Will their pay improve? Or will big corpos hire the "new Europeans" at the lowest rate possible. Will rapes and violent crimes continue to rise as our high trust society ever erodes to the point where we can't tell people to turn their phone's off of loud speaker on a bus/train because we don't wanna get assaulted?

Am I making sense? No, I'm a mega racist. Just like I was a hateful transphobe for believing that our bodies are sexed and all of that pronoun and gender spirit affirmation was a load of self absorbed tosh. Just like I'm an Islamaphobe for pointing out that Muslims hate women and gay people and should not be free from criticism just because their fairy tale book tells them to believe such things. Just like I'm unempathetic for not wanting governments to murder poverty stricken people with medical issues in the same fashion that a horse with a broken leg gets shot for being seen as unviable to compete in sport.

I want to know why. Why are the left today so obsessed with promoting causes that actively harm us both on an individual level and as a societal whole?

Because left-wing economics is about ending exploitation and injustice for everyone, not just the people in your country. If Person A is wealthier than Person B, basic Marxist analysis says that Person A is benefiting unjustly from a system that oppresses and robs Person B. The fundamental tenets of justice require dismantling that system. It may mean Person A becomes poorer, not richer. Is the common working man in the UK better off than the common working man in India? Yes. Therefore, the system that unjustly expropriates the common working man of India must be dismantled, and we can help do that by opening borders worldwide.

Most people, but especially most left-wing people, practice politics off of vibes, not principles. As we have dumped religiosity as a barometer of moral quality, politics were substituted for it, so saying the right things authority figures tell them to becomes paramount. It determines career prospects in reputation-based industries, it determines social acceptance in dense urban centers, and let's not even go into how many people have had their lives ruined for saying the wrong thing on social media.

So the managerial class, where all of those concerns are paramount, got taken over by the left. And, because it was now mostly representing the concerns of ever-expanding bureaucracies, it was reshaped to increasingly reflect the desires of an effete, urbane, and disconnected paper-pushing class. Infinite 3rd world poors need more managers to manage them into navigating complicated Western Social Services. Infinite 3rd world poors prop up the same social services that don't pay well enough, take a lot of abuse, and are hamstrung by that same excess bureaucracy to drive away native workers to other pastures. Infinite 3rd world poors lower the cost of labor, don't demand worker's protection laws and pensions, and don't file complaints to management (aside from discrimination cases). All of those mean more jobs, better PR, and better quarterly reports for middle managers throughout the nation.

There you go. That's why the old school Left Wing worker's concerns get sidelined. Because most people who are now left wing, who dominate the voting base for left wingers, because of the social capital accrued through left wing social politics, are, at best, apathetic, and, at worst, hostile to worker politics.

As a byproduct of their self-righteous sense of justice, the left has become overly obsessed with identity politics. Buzz words and phrases have replaced dialog and conversations.

They hate western culture and white people, as they see those things being responsible for worldwide inequities.

They also largely lack a firm understanding of actual world history, politics, culture, and religion, which makes them further rely on base sentiments like brown=good and white=bad.

One of the big reasons the left went all out for Palestine is because in their eyes, Jewish people are white, and they're "oppressing, colonizing, and genociding" the poor, brown Palestinians.
There have been constant, actual genocides and ethnic cleansings happening all over the world, but because it will usually occur between same raced factions, they shy away.

They don't actual care about any of the things they espouse because they're always quick to contradict themselves when the facts don't match their ideology.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Probably it goes back to the 1960s, when the New Left arose among young people as part of the broader sexual and cultural revolutions in the West.

Neoliberal ideas infested pretty much all left-wing parties after the collapse of the Soviet Union as it was a clear sign of this ideology's "superiority".

The damage was already being done by right-wing parties in places like the UK and especially the US, which was the now undisputed global hegemon. It was Reagan that pushed for mass amnesty and open borders and his successors merely doubled down on it, GDP and corporate profits became the sacred metrics of prosperity and not actual qualify of life or economic opportunities at home.

It's based on the belief the "world is flat", that there are no real differences between cultures and countries and every human being is just an interchangeable part who can be made to fit with the right application of neoliberal ideas. It's a new version of the white man's burden in many ways, just with much worse consequences.

Mass Immigration was probably initially adopted as part of a moralism movement (if you let this third worlder that has nothing to do with you starve you're hitler) that also ended up benefiting extremely rich lolberts (people who own corporations and the capital to make their voices heard ftr) who fully endorsed it. Really one of the core tenets of modern leftism is supporting literally any form of policy as long as it subverts/undermines white people and provides an advantage to brown people, that's all. It's their mammon after all.

Because a lot of modern left-wing positions aren't based on sincere belief in any particular principle, they're based on contrarianism: If they believe that the right is in favor of something, then the only acceptable position for them to take is to be against it, and vice versa.

This is why their positions often clash with each other. (For example, claiming to be for women’s rights while simultaneously running defense for Islam.) If they based their stances in actual principles, then there would inevitably end up being some areas where they openly agreed with the right, albeit for different reasons.

That’s why they’re so in favor of mass immigration. The logic goes something like:

1. We believe that the right wing is racist.
2. Therefore, we must be the opposite of racist.
3. People who are racist would be opposed to immigration.
4. If racists are opposed to immigration, and if the right wing is racist, then by the transitive property of math, being opposed to immigration must be a right-wing position.
5. Therefore, we should be actively FOR immigration.

Of course, this is silly for numerous reasons, but it’s how the logic works.

I believe it's due to basically the belief in tabula rasa. The old left was all about uplifting the working class and taking away barriers that would prevent their rise. That's where we need mo' money fo' them programs come from. Just one more program and the unwrittten page will become written in middle class. Then Occupy wall street happened and the powers that be decided to push racial conflict instead of class conflict.

IQ is about 80% heritable. If you accept that you have to throw away half or more of current and past leftism and do some serious thinking about the consequences of a heritable IQ. People are not equal and can not be made to be equal. From lysenkoism, to attacking IQ-testing and IQ itself to Diversity, inclution and equity the left has tried to explain away the fact that people aren't equal.

It doesn't help that socialism, democratic or not just does not work. It didn't work in China, Soviet Union, Vietnam, Venezuela, Cuba and so on and so forth. Social democracy that doesn't aim to achieve communism works at least for a while in ethnically homogeneous nations (Nordic countries). We have been trying to implement socialism for like 250 years and have failed miserably every time.

I and most everyone else was indoctrinated into tabula rasa and I fell out of it by being interested in heritability and twin studies. It was not fun to ponder the consequences of that but since I subscribe to individualism I didn't have to throw out most of the foundations or conclusions of my ideology and my ideology is in no way the basis for my identity. Leftists leftism is usually a big part of their identity and that is not as easy to change as mere ideology.

I thought OP was asking why the parties do it. NPCs just do what they're told by the party/media and invent rationalizations later. Identity politics trump any principles they may have. Take the TFW debacle in Canada, which Canadian leftists still have support for even though it is the most pro-corporation anti-working class stance you could have. Leftists have created their own hierarchy where the more marginalized you are, the more oppressed you are. It is a luxury belief.

Most of it started somewhere between the Boomers and Silent Generation, two gens that lived through one of the most prosperous times in American history. Even today, the gens are essentially able to continue living a lifestyle of 70-90s America since all their assets have been elevated alongside inflation. Take these groups, along with the Gen X stranglers who got in before the ladder came up, and now imagine how genuinely messed up their worldview is given they had a pretty sweet ride set up for them. Of course they believe in immigration, the issues of it largely do not impact them in the slightest, hell, it actually helps them since their assets, such as housing, are made higher due to it.

For them, no one wants to be a cotton picker because you could just, go to college and get a cushy career. Not only that, but the cheap labor makes your Starbucks a dollar cheaper…yippe!! All this and you get to look like a great person helping Pablo support his familia in the amazing country of America.

There is a reason No Kings and Anti-ICE are so elderly coded. The elderly live in an entirely different America where these issues you propose simply don’t exist. They are far enough into their career (and connected) to always have a job, live away from the crime, and don’t face the inflated prices on homes, education, and other essentials since they already got them in the pre-mass migration eras. Marx was a goofball economist, but he was right that ideology is all bullshit that conceals something else.
