My thoughts. I would say the momentum was there in about 2010 for some positive changes to be made. The recession occured at the end of 2008 and was global. By 2010 people were really beginning to discuss regulation of industry and banking so this crisis could be avoided in the future. Tolerance for corruption was at an all time low and people wanted accountability. The theme at this time for the left was government accountability and industry accountability.
But they lost the plot. Within just a few short years the narrative was centered around race, cracking down on white privilege, encouraging open borders and gender identity. It was a major let down to see this occur. Really fucking disappointing.
Not focusing on improving working conditions and cracking down on corruption is what absolutely killed the left in the majority of Anglophone countries. Now we have an ugly housing bubble going unabated and stagnant wages because all everyone on the left wanted to focus on by the mid 2010's was race. That's probably how Donald Trump was elected in the first time in the U.S. workers were so fed up with no one hearing their voices and tired of mass migration.
It's sad.
