There is some debate if Isaac was originally sacrificed and only later did the story change to have him spared. However it widely accepted by the jewish community that the point of the story is basically God telling them they do not need to perform human sacrifice like the other people around them were doing at the time.

It also happens to fit in the Davidic bloodline connection with Jesus and the sacrifice motif to boot. There are two versions to the Sacrifice of Iphigenia myth as well, which is very similar to the Isaac story, where Agamemnon has to sacrifice his firstborn daughter, Iphigenia, to the moon goddess, Diana. There's one version where he does it to gain favorable winds to continue the Trojan War and the other where Diana demanded it after a slight to her. The Goddess Dianna saves her last minute by replacing Iphigenia with a deer, like Issac with him being replaced by a ram/sheep, but the bloodline goes to shit afterwards, unlike Isaac's story. The story of Diana demanding sacrifice sounds like an older version, the same with God demanding a sacrifice in the Isaac story without the updated law/moral version, and the one to gain favor sounds like something a bard would add to spice up the story to connect it with the bigger Trojan war.

I am convinced that gene-edited races of people exist but are kept secret, maybe even from themselves. Even with several taboos on genetics over the past few decades, I don't believe for a second that anyone unscrupulous didn't get up to using it on human embryos. If a scientist found a way to make a person immune to the common cold genetically, or in general faster, smarter, stronger, then they'd never need to tell the child. The kid would grow up to just be better and everyone would think it was natural. It's even possible for a whole community to be like this and have zero reason to tell outsiders about it. After all, it could create whole new witchburnings if we discovered there were people grown to literally be better hanging around. However, give them a few decades and a generation or two...then even if information came out, no one could do anything about it.

They are more of "immortal" in an ideological sense. Their body might be mortal but their ideology is not and will haunt humanity back and forth from the grave and beyond.

Pagan Gods can die to the Abrahamic God/Baal/Demiurge, or more accurately, His zealots, but the Abrahamic God/Baal/Demiurge will never die, only change form.
