Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Okay, just from the intro, I needed to learn more about the show.
You can find the full episodes on YouTube, but what I really wanted to find was the full version of the song, and it was better than I imagined.

Not only is there a full version of Liberty Kids' title "Through My Own Eyes," but they also held a live concert for this song.
Oh yes, this exists.

Liberty's Kids was the shit back then. Wish I could get the Shout! Factory release, it has the Liberty News Network segments on it.
Never watched it much as a kid, but after rewatching the pilot, I can see why a lot of kids enjoyed it. By showing major events like the Boston Tea Party from the perspective of a bunch of kids, it helps the target audience understand how important they are. In addition, the diverse cast helps explore different perspectives, like when an American kid and a British kid debate the colonists' lack of representation in Parliament. They don't shy away from topics like slavery and other injustices at the time. It's a great way to get kids interested in history.

Also, the FUCK you mean Walter Cronkite voiced Ben Franklin?

Sorry to double post but me and some friends watched Ice Age 1 and 2 recently. And 2 is actually anti-current year if you think about it. Manny is deadset on getting Ellie to see that she isn't a Possum--she's a mammoth and that's okay. She still has brothers in Crash and Eddie, but she was adopted. It's simple reality but it dosen't change the fact that she is loved (and eventually loved by Manny).

Holy based Bluesky Studios batman. If this was pointed out long before please just let me have my updoots the points are worth repeating

That cast was insanely stacked. Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Rannells, Billy Crystal, Dustin Hoffman, Sylvester Stallone, Liam Neeson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.
Between this series and Clifford, I have no idea how PBS managed to keep getting A-listers to just regularly show up in their shit for pennies. I guess some celebs are willing to take a hefty pay cut if it means "doing it for the kids."

The shit eating, grandma fucker who got banned from the farms is cashing in on the cartoon community on xitter by posting about how much he loves slander art about john lasseter.

Does anyone know the name we have - or should have - for the phenomenon of people (women) not mastering human anatomical proportions before bending the rules on those proportions? Some of the Hazbin Hotel characters give off the same impression. It's not a style, it's an incompletion of a style.

I know some people call it Tumblr art, which I guess is true, but doesn't hit the phenomenon square on the head. When I see this stuff it reminds me of the art girls of teenagehood that were either too scared or too haughty to receive critique. And now they're in the industry?

See, the thing is…it is damn hard to write a portrayal of Injuns in any medium that doesn’t end up offending somebody. There are just so many stereotypes and tired tropes floating around that it is almost impossible to write a character that doesn’t fall into at least some of them. By deciding to make this movie Disney was pretty much setting itself up for a lose/lose situation.
The bigger issue is that injuns have a persecution complex and a whiny libshit public opinion defense lobby that would put the jews and niggers to shame. You literally cannot do right by them or the whiny libshits who like them.

Liberty Kids was a great show. I remember watching it as a little kid back when it was still airing new episodes.

It helps that kid's shows back then were actually good and had quality both in their writing and animation but also their subject matter. It also probably helps that celebrities back then typically had kids of their own and were willing to do things to make their kids happy. PBS used to be a genuine positive to society.

Who do you think the Tumblr artists of yesteryear (and also probably today) actually are if not exactly that type of art girl?

Ah, yes, the weebs who fetishize history and make it all about big titty waifus are among the worst. Now with the flavor of commie woman fetishizing and yuri bait! Wow, you can just tell when something is made by weak-willed moepig male with no game. No dommie commie mommy for you, chink.

This "project" will crush and burn, it's a physical equivalent of the countless used tissues in the author's bedroom. Mr. Anigooner, pls, never create anything ever again, you have no value as an artist. Or maybe at least learn to draw moe faces without making them so crooked and ugly? :sunshinegoodness:

I don't get the sentiment that Video Games are somehow taken less seriously than animation, if anything I feel its the other way around. Where gaming is "srs bizness" and tons of money is poured into it, with shit like e-sports involved, animation has and will continue to be on a downward trajectory of never being seen as prestigious as other mediums. Not just for the money loss, but given the type of autistic manchildren that both make up the current viewership and those who make cartoons (GLITCH, Vivzieslop, other indieshit creations, etc.)

Unless its anime, don't ever expect anyone thinking what you watch is "high art" like Paw Patrol or sum shit.

I thought that during the 80-90s, there were attempts at making animation more serious but, thanks to the lunatics mentioned above, animation is once again seen as the domain of children and manchildren, even though anime proved multiple times that's not the case.

This is why I like most Illumination movies. Character design and color palette aside, which I enjoy, the messages are good for kids. That's the target audience. The Despicable trilogy shows redemption, love, healthy marriage and family, and sticking to your morals. There's a lot of positive representation that we don't see in family movies anymore. Minion movies and spin offs are not something I cared to watch (too much cross dressing and fart humor and bratty attitude from kid Gru) but they're not too bad in the original trilogy.

Pets 1 and 2 also has a good message of teamwork, redemption and how to move on from loss. The sequel shows a healthy marriage and pets adjusting to a new baby in the house and watching him grow up. The message teaches kids not to live in fear because the dog doesn't want his kid to get hurt and learns to mature and be brave.

Mario 1 and 2 had good messages but I wish the focus was more on the brothers working together. Peach wasn't too much of a girlboss but I didn't really like the fish out of water trope they used for his story to begin with.
It should have gone a different way. I could also sperg about Sonic 1-3 but that would be for a different thread; I'll just say it had some good messages for kids too.

I also enjoyed Ice Age but hadn't watched the sequel in years. Blue Sky also had some good messages and animation. I was sad when they shut down.

I know I could watch a lot of old shows with my kids but that comes down to availability and their interests. Also, studios today don't make movies or shows for kids in mind so when I find good ones in current day I tend to overlook some of their annoying flaws. It's a desert right now but there are some decent shows to be found.

Missing an option for the troon/LGTBASHIT cultist that hates everything, but I guess it's redundant.

Are they? Minions look like a negative IQ-black hole to me.

Not too much of a girlboss? She's practically the main character who the movies are about! She's kidnapped and forced into a marriage with Boswer in the first movie only because the setting demanded it, and she easily and quickly ditches her kingdom and subjects when adventure calls, with no questions asked, not even asking Mario to come along.
Sure, she could be much worse and Mario is no longer a weakling in the second movie, but I guess the Rei Palpatine character cliché is too used up nowadays, thankfully.
Mario 2 does have good messages alright, but it also has woke elements.

Minions and girlboss
I did say in my previous post I won't vouch for the Minions movies and off shoots. I don't really care for them.

As for Mario yeah she's the main star but they didn't let Mario look completely retarded and the boys saved the day in the end so I was glad for that. I wish they started the Mario Bros' story differently but that's what we got. I liked parts of the second one and I think Peach's scenes could be cut or limited and you wouldn't lose much plot at all. It already felt like a bloated cast in the second film but the brothers got more screen time since the theme was about family.

Is there a scientific explanation for where the user came from?

I thought "rant" culture died like 12 years ago why are there still guys making videos where they yell pretend to be mario characters.

I'm at least glad the channel awesome method of "acting" and awful line delivery has died and been replaced with just yelling. This is progress.

Are they? Minions look like a negative IQ-black hole to me.
Minions and Illumination in general are just bright colors and noise.

They combine lazy visual design with lazy inoffensive writing. They won't stick with kids they'll just make them shut up for an hour.
I think insecure parents mistake stock boring tropes that won't confuse kids for "good messages" because they have less to explain after the movie's over.

Illumination made Gru get married because the original characters they introduced were already stale and flat and they needed to add more of a shakeup, like introducing a baby into a sitcom. It's just cynical garbage.
