Tism first, then hobby.
I wouldn't mind a third tier era with a different opening crawl. We've gone from Horus Heresy to the dark times of 40k. It actually might be an interesting change to make things a little bit brighter.

Not neutered mind you, but it actually would be interesting to see the drama that would ensue from Victory actually being in sight. With a major villain faction dying or getting severely hamstrung.
I'm struggling to form an opinion on that because you're right, made more appealing by the demands for grimderp. At the same time, I can see it not going over well.

Pivoting to comedy again could be another option.

I still maintain that they also don't understand faith, or feel too uncomfortable to contemplate the end result of a Tau occupation of an imperial planet.
Have you seen the real world?

I don't want to get too off topic, but be it the mass migration in Europe, to CHAZ or the election of Joe Biden. Even with massive numbers on their side, it doesn't mean anything if your politicians sell you out. Meanwhile you have bottom up problems like chaos cults and gene stealer cults that can go unnoticed for generations.

Even as a war, I imagine a Tau invasion would be like the US grabbing Maduro. And the Tau getting the population on side? It's always been offering a life that isn't complete shit.

Its a shame 40k is so specific due to their consolidation of their IPs that you cant really get anything that even vaugely looks like a space marine or guardsman third party, at best the WGA shit for the obscure IG regiments, maybe Marcher will end up decent if they do more plastic kits
Sorry for the double quote.

I just came across this video where he shows off a bunch of Cadian bits on minis from other companies.

As for Marcher. I looked it up, and it appeals to be WGAs answer to Konflikt 47. There was another, similar game called Dust 1947 that is long out of print. All are dieselpunk weird war 2 games.
I bring that up because K47 specifically is mostly resin at the moment, but are making a hard push towards plastic. Some of the proxies are a stretch imo, but I figured I'd mention them.

Stahltruppen. People proxy these for space marines, but I don't see it myself. You're also not saving money as these guys ask terminator money unless you farm starter kits.

Linebacker US Walker as Sentinels. That I can see as a proxy, but the value isn't there (see below).

Then there's the new shocktroops which look very guard-like. Would make acceptable cadians or death korps.

However, I don't own any. I was going to use WGAs not-steal-legion guys you didn't like to save money.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

One of the problems you run into with some of these proxies is that they are elites, and priced as such. Either being resin or metal or just coming in small amounts. The value of the proxy gets eaten away pretty quick. eg. A £30 GW sentinel vs £40 Warlord Linebacker isn't a money saver. The real source of Linebackers is starter kits and bundles. The shocktroops are £12 for a box of 3, intended to be bodyguards for named characters.

I’ve been enjoying assembling the Legions Imperialis starter box. It’s 30K so only Imperial Army and Space Marines though. Does anyone know of any good sources for models GW hasn’t released for that line? I’d like to find similar scale 40K stuff.
Nice. Supposedly you can stretch some boxes by putting one less mini on a base.

I'm not sure what you're asking. There's epic, if that's what you mean. If you mean 3D prints, there was a YouTube trend a while ago of taking 40k STLs and shrinking them down to make coffee table 40k.

Saw some parts of the Aeronautica Imperialis animation. The Eldar aircraft looks cool, doing the impossible maneuvers you expect, reminds me of how Imperial Armour 11 points that only when forming giant compact blocks of vehicles, the Imperium achieved any positive kill ratio vs Eldar vehicles in Betalis.

Its apparent in 40k when they just describe a couple million IG casualties in Vraks and it gets real fucky when SMs are involved, entire companies or chapters are wiped on a whim for drama while sometimes they mention that a single squad could take on entire armies of regular humans or orks
Ironically, Tau stuff got better numbers. The Farsight Enclaves Codex says that the first 3 planets the Tau took after Damocles had 500 million PDF even after being depleted to fight Behemoth.

By contrast, the entire Armageddon System had a total of 1.5 million soldiers right before the 3rd War, despite Armageddon alone having a population of 500 billion.

Anchillus Assault also lists one of 3 fronts in the Anchillus Crusade, costing hundreds of billions of Guardsmen.

But as said, GW is awful with numbers, and they won't give us details about the Tau, as far as we know, the Tau deal with the population by having their own Inquisition in the form of a Space Stasi that vanishes whoever is caught by a hidden camera. For context, the Stasi had way, way more agents per citizen than either the Gestapo or the KGB, at some 1 agent per 400.

But it is just as likely no one in GW cares to explain, so there is no answer.

A true “super-intelligent” demigod would know that faith is inseparable from humanity and times of faithlessness are synonymous with loss of progress, like our modern day. Not even faith in God or religion, it can be faith in a nation, a goal, an idea or just getting from one location to another, all fuelled by faith and determination, it is from faith that willpower, hope and courage are enriched and maintained.
Aquinas basically separates Faith and Knowledge, where Knowledge is something you can prove with empirical evidence, while Faith isn't. A doctor who takes a vaccine follows his knowledge; a layperson who takes the vaccine because a doctor says so, without having any evidence of how it works or being able to test, follows his faith.

The Emperor is an absolute autocrat whose word was law and would not share his knowledge of his master plan with anyone, pretty much telling all but his most trusted advisors, "just believe me." That is Faith.

Didn't Big Daddy E lose a debate with the priest before he destroyed the last church
Yes, McNeill admitted he doesn't know shit about theology, and that Uriah also doesn't know, which is clear, any ordained priest would eat the Emperor alive, as all the stuff he said was explained by Aquinas 800 years ago.

According to McNeil, his idea (you can find it on his personal blog) is that the Emperor is right, but he is an asshole, while Uriah is wrong, but he is a better person.

Marcher was/is an internet only (I.e little to no FLGS precense) wargame that isn't made by the WGA people, they only more or less licensed plastic production of their US kits. The game itself is done by Golden Dragon games, kinda like Trench Crusade, OPR et al

I think WGA does have a very small skirmish game featuring their Sci Fi Death Fields range and that's it, they do produce official sets for Quar, which seems to be very indie and only has a small website, The Barons War and Gangs of Rome, published by Footsore Miniatures

Outside of Voice of Experience and Elemental Council, you got pretty much nothing on their civilian life.

All the complaints of "But they don't interact with other factions" and similar would be solved by just doing something.

In the codexes, you got them shoving psychic crystals into guns as ad-hoc defense vs the Thousand Sons, but we won't see anything about it again. No fighting the Dark Eldar in the pitch-black orbit of their black hole orbiting Sept, no facing Genestealers who showed up at random while dismantling a hive. They border the largest Necron empire, and we have had 3 interactions between the two in 20 years.

You don't need full novels, Voice of Experience and The Greater Evil deliver better Tau content than any of their full novels until Elemental Council, there is a reason 2 of the best Tau content are Guard novels where the Tau are the enemy (Broken Sword and Fire Caste)

And they somehow conquer these worlds despite them being deliberately engineered to resist sieges for years, decades even, and the cities having under their command vast planetary defense forces, to say nothing of the religious rabble the priesthood would be able to whip into a frenzy against the xeno invader.
To be fair hive worlds don't sound like the hardest target to siege. A single missed shipment of food is enough to cause a famine in there, said shipment being airlifted in. Add in the fact that the underhive usually has both 'stealers and chaos cultists alongside the regular hivescum. Just hotbox a hive with AA and watch it fall all on it's own.

Thinking about it, a hive besieged by the Tau would be an interesting setting for a novel.

Checked the Ignorant Armies anthology because Stephen Baxter wrote for it. That anthology is a good time capsule for when Slaanesh was very much the Sex god, half of the stories mention orgies.

They also call Slaanesh "Bisexual" instead of "Hermaphrodite" in Slaves to Darkness

Isn't the sex shit still a massive part of the Cult of Slaanesh? Granted the last Slaanesh related thing I read was Fulgrim and that was written almost 10 years ago.

Like Professor Donger said, they've been toning it down. Rather... diluting it with other things. Noise marines are sex, drugs, rock & roll but get treated as more of excess of sensation(sound in this instance) which is what they've been tying slaanesh to, and it still works. The AoS hedonites of slaanesh range has done a better job of this. Glutos isn't fucking any time soon due to being a giant lardass, but that's the point being a depiction of gluttony. The infernal enrapturess is again music/sound, Sigvald is just a looksmaxer, the masque is a theater kid, and so on. They're still all definitely degenerates, just not entirely about fucking.
