The thing about the left is they can't defend their arguments under sustained debate pressure, so they ban you from their thread if you try. Then, they pop in to yours once every few months when they think they have a point they can use as a life preserver and then disappear once you pop it. Not banning them doesn't get you a real debate, just a drive-by. Still, it's good to challenge the groupthink now and then.

Does that supreme court ruling means that any tariffs, already in place, must be rolled back?
SCOTUS only considered tariffs issued under the IEEPA & struck those down. President Trump primarily relied on IEEPA for sanctions & emergency-based restrictions. Numerous major tariffs were imposed under standard trade statutes, not emergency powers, so many remain in effect.

So, does this mean that tariffs are basically reset to what they were before Trump came into office?
It prevents Trump doing random blanket tariffs like he initially threatened for “liberation day” (then largely backed off of when it was clearly disastrous).

He can still do some targeted tariffs, but there are more limits on them and require justification beyond Trump being annoyed with a commercial.

So Trump can no longer wake up pissed and threaten 400% tariffs on a country, which he can piss and moan about now.

What’s going to be interesting are the court fights on refunding Americans that paid his tariffs.

Steel & Aluminum, Automobiles & parts, Copper products, Semiconductors. Section 301 tariffs are primarily everything from CHINA!!!! and were implemented during his first term.

The IEEPA tariffs are all about Fentanyl (China, Canada, Mexico) or reciprocal tariffs with a few muh deficit things sprinkled about.
USCMA is up for renewal soon so Trump is most likely going to let that die.
Total jeet victory.

I was interested specifically in @Bland Crumbs's reasoning for the, in my opinion, very strong claim that
One @ would have sufficed:

Removing the ability and effectively removing any of the tariffs Trump imposed takes a huge amount of leverage out of future negotiations. The ruling will also be used as precedent in the future to kneecap attempts to use tariffs in general by giving SCOTUS SAID NO! fodder to opponents and media to create pressure against them.

Kavanaugh also noted that the ruling "is not likely to greatly restrict Presidential tariff authority going forward," outside of the IEEPA context.
I am glad he thinks it is not likely when there are obvious ways the ruling can be used against Trump and future Presidents but I am sure it will all be fine!

I see major potential economic negatives in this ruling and in my opinion that hurts everyone but again I am sure it will be totally fine.

OK, time for a poll on the phrase the Establishment media will coalesce around to describe the situation in light of today's decision:

:like: - "This is the beginning of the end for Trump"
:agree: - "The walls are closing in on Trump"
:feels: - "This is a bombshell for Trump"
:drink: - "The Trump Administration is O-ver"
:lunacy:- "Trump is a racist"

Ready, set ... GO!

Perfectly said.

I would give you a sticker if the TES thread didn't get upset I dumb rated their post and got their pet janny to remove my sticker privileges.

He largely backed off after establishing that he wouldn’t tolerate third party countries serving as pass throughs for China to evade said tariffs, and used the gravity of the situation to even some imbalances

You do realize that we near universally took the short end on tariffs, right? That in the majority of cases, we imposed lower tariffs than were imposed on us?

Nothing about that was disastrous. Prices barely flinched anywhere
