So, last night as we all know now, a patch for chapter 5 dropped adding new dialog to Pink about Friend, which changes Spamton's story. The conditions for this are that you have to have beaten pink, you have to have found the chapter 5 egg, and you have to attack the hidden Friend in the chapter.
What we learned is
1) Friend isn't a single entity. There are multiple Friends. (I'm personally theorizing that it's 1 entity that can split into multiple entities, hence why it looks to be made up of cats).
2)It hunts for Protein. (most likely for the Eggs and Eggman)
3)They are basically attack dogs/cats for someone (Likely Gaster from what we know about Spamton)
4)It's supposedly not very smart, but chases its targets endless until they get bored.
5)They bite very hard (Kris was bitten on the hand by the Friend in chapter 5. Maybe this is how Kris will lose his hand)
6)People (meaning spamton) have changed their appearance to hide from them.
So, this whole thing got me thinking. We always viewed Spamton as someone who had a benefactor who abandoned him, then left him for broke and he was trying to scrape by. With all the evidence we have, he likely broke his contract with Gaster who marked him for Death and he was in hiding from the Friends.
Now let's add some information we already know about Spamton:
1)All armor items related to him have cat and puppet resistance on them.
2)Spamton used to look different, but started imitating Swatch at some point after his downfall using Friend's colors.
3)Has an obsession with these eggs called 'pipis'.
4)Has more knowledge than he should about where the story is going and seems to have knowledge over the weird route.
-Spamton starts off as an unsuccessful salesman in the Cyber World. He cannot catch a break. He is good with technology but has no reach.
-Tenna on the other hand is bad with technology and has a lot of reach.
-Tenna and Spamton meet up and decide to team up since they cover each others weakness.
-Before they can get started, someone approaches Spamton with a contract promising success (I'm thinking it's Gaster or a Goner).
-Spamton brings it back to Tenna and Mike. Pippin Mike reviews it and tells Spamton that this is bad and he shouldn't sign it. Tenna encourages him to sign it so they can be successful.
-Before they can get started, Spamton gets a phone call and runs out of the room. Tenna says Spamton was pale and leaves the receiver off, Tenna hears nothing on the Receiver. (I believe that either Spamton was threatened on this call or was instructed to leave and fulfill his end of the contract).
-Spamton goes back to the Cyberworld and becomes a rich success.
-Spamton gets a room in Queen's mansion
-(This point is very theory from Swatch's dialog and Seam's Dialog in chapter 5) Swatch is likely supposed to be MSPaint. At one point it seems like Hapstablook was in the Library and used the program to draw the Mettaton Neo body. When he cried over his broken dream to have a body, it created the Mettaton Neo body in the basement with the shadow crystal implanted in it.
-Spamton lost his success and gets a call (I think it was Gaster telling him he broke the contract and he was marked for Death).
-One of Spamton's old Addison friends goes to visit him and finds phone off the receiver. This time he hears the Garbage/Gaster noise on the other end.
So, that's all we know, so everything below is what I've piece together with the new lore and old lore.
-Spamton immediately gets hunted by the Friends since he's marked for death.
-Goes into hiding and assumed Swatch's style to try to throw them off and to trick the Swatchlings into letting him into the basement. He also starts making items to defend against the Friends.
-I've heard before that Spamton used to be taller, but got dipped in Queen's acid pools (I've heard this but never seen proof of it) (Also these 2 points would explain why Tenna doesn't recognize him in the hidden cutscene in chapter 3.)
-Starts living in a dumpster, not because he's broke, it's because Friends are attracted to wealth. The Chapter 5 Friend does damage based on the value of the first item in your inventory. (This is probably why the dog dollar goes down in value, because it's the opposite of cats).
-Eventually runs into Kris and tricks him into uploading him into the Mettaton Neo body
Note: I've seen people theorize that the Friend in the basement was waiting for Spamton, but I think it was just stalking Kris, as Spamton has no problem getting the Neo body on his own in the Weird route.
-With his knowledge of the way the story is supposed to go and how he talks about Heaven and we have the Angel's Heaven discussed a few times in game, I think he planned to go to the end of the game and eliminate the problem at its source with the Neo body and the Human Soul if he had beaten Kris.
-In the normal route, he is beaten and shown just to be a puppet attached to strings, he joins up with Kris as the Dealmaker/puppet scarf since he can't run/hide anymore and needs Kris to make it through the Friends.
Btw, I was rewatching the store stuff, and I think this might be Dess trying to talk to Kris.
Anyways, that's everything. I think after the reveal today, I gotta ask. How did we start associating the tail of hell/pointed tail to Friend? I know that that gold and pink organ NPC in the roots room has that scrambled up phrase about the pointed tail leading kids away, but after Pink's dialog, The Friends don't seem to be this Cheshire Cat character everyone has built up in their mind, especially if it's not smart. Like I said, maybe friend can split apart and each individual one is dumb and them all together is smart. Who knows now.

tail of hell is obviously related to forgotten man due to 11 balls and a dark triangle (which disappears and 'disappears' hands) and eggs being issues for gaster (therefore they're evil and hellish). but tl;dr, spamton sweepstakes caused people to mistake friend being tail of hell. aka toby can't do mysteries and lore
She's not in Chapter 5's credits though, she's in Chapter 4's listed as "Additional Animation Assistance." Seemingly small enough to not do major damage.

i think there's a fine line between being vague for no reason and leaving enough info in for the reader/player/viewer to understand where things may be going. as it is, i have no fucking idea what FRIEND is about. so, what, someone's hunting the eggs and FRIEND is their army of egg-eaters? this is the first time FRIEND has hurt us second time interacting with us at all, first time being ERAM, and it's not like it only hurts you if you've gotten eggs before as far as i know, is that supposed to be an important detail? you normally encounter FRIEND when you're going off the beaten path to find shadow crystals, except for chapters 4 and 5.
on the other hand, i think i'm getting a better picture of what happened with spamton. whoever was calling him was giving him specific instructions, he got spooked, bailed out, lost it all, and went into hiding. maybe the caller is the FRIENDs' leash-holder? maybe the caller was trying to help him act without drawing their attention? i get the feeling that spamton was "originally" supposed to be a supporting villain in chapter 3, but in this iteration of the story, everything ended up going south. that line of thinking would support that one poster's time loop theory, at least. but then you've got Asgore with his vague bullshit, and guess it makes sense that kris and flowery, the two guys he's really talking to, would already be well aware of what happened on "that day" at "that place" involving "those people," but for fucks sake throw us a bone here. all we really know is that he knows way more than anyone else in town would know about what happened... but we knew that from the rest of the chapter. now we're the ones putting up a schizo corkboard carrying on where he left off

I think that's very unlikely. She's not tight with Toby like she was with Mike, and Toby isn't the kind of autist Mike is. She was the big fish at Lab Zero, but with Toby's crew she might as well be a minnow in the pond. Honestly the only real important detail here is that people like Toby, and Mike was not easy to get along with (again, autism). He still didn't deserve any of that shit, if they really had a problem with Mike they could have talked things out with him.
I do not have the energy to redo all the chapters again for the secret bosses just to hunt for the man with the eggs, I was in my 20s when chapter 1 was release now I'm in my 30s.

The whole vague bullshit was tolerable until Chapter 5. Sure, we loved the buildup, loved the theories, loved the guessing, loved to think that everything is going to be interconnected and related in logical if complex ways and loved to imagine how it would be all revealed us one day. The setup was great. But here we are, with only 2 chapters left, well over the halfway point and not only there is absolutely no end or resolve in sight, we are STILL getting more and more setup, while previous setup and events are already getting forgotten, like Susie's reaction to the prophecy, which is the worst sign possible. People expected atleast SOME answers from Asgore, not heckin japanese little weeb adventures. We already had Chapter 4 as the halfway point where things are getting darker, people want to continue with the story, they are already invested, they don't need more setup. The whole thing was like a long dissonant trumpet fart in an enjoyable beat. Just a completely bad followup to Chapter 4. Unless the weird route and skipping the entire thing becomes canon in which case it becomes amazing, still holding out my last ampoule of Hoperexin 500mg MAX for that. He could have also segmented the chapter itself. Like, have a darkworld somewhere, let them being a baka gaijin with the mew mew doll for the first half, the last lighthearted, fun adventure, then segue from it into a much darker finale set-up for the second half of it. Chapter 4 literally did that with the multiple dark worlds and it was great.
