To Becky, her situation is considered a “dream job” because Amber makes more than anyone working at McDonald’s. She has more time to do whatever work she wants to do beyond ALR, she doesn’t answer to anyone(except Amber), things are more on her terms rather than some manager‘s. She gets things that she likes/wants from Amber. If she is being abused, then she gets a lot of rewards for it. At least that‘s what Becky thinks or tells herself.
Compared to many people, Becky is actually fairly privileged and if she wants to keep that, then she simply does what Amber says. And to Becky, that’s better than working at Walmart or a saw mill or wherever she previously worked. To Becky, she hit pay dirt and isn’t about to let that go.
I suspect that Amber encourages the hobbies, the gaming, the tv shows, because that way, Becky won’t ever leave. It’s a gilded cage full of fat and I think Becky is fine with it.
Others would see it as a nightmare. I am very much aware of that. I have also always believed that being trapped with an abuser is a fate worse than death.
