The newest album from Taylor Swift, Life of a showgirl is getting lots of different opinions. From her using AI to promote it, Charli xcx pathetic diss, questionable lyrics and Travis Boner song.

I don't know if the kiwi demographic cares that much for Taylor or similar artists but I still wanna hear the differents takes.

I've never been a fan of Taylor Swift, but that's not to say I "hate" her or anything like that. I've never found her music compelling, and it seems like even her diehard fans are realizing how sucky her songs are and/or have been. A lot of people are rightly bored, in my opinion, of her lyrics, which feel and have felt for a long while very juvenile and surface-level. Women are "allowed" to be juvenile and surface-level, but the lifestyle/attitude that Swift promotes and is living conflicts with her stuck-in-time 9th grade love/hate poems that make up her songs.

I look forward to reading what others have to say here, as for me, it feels like everyone is "finally" waking up to just how polished and corporately controlled her music/persona is.

I was curious about this (what can I say, I love drama), so I looked it up. Apparently, Taylor also released a UK exclusive deluxe version of her album to block Charlie’s album from reaching #1. She has also done this- re-released albums to camp the charts when another artist was set to release theirs- to Billie Eilish and SZA.

All of her album sale data is manipulated and inflated in this way. 24 (!) different versions of the current dreck were available for pre-order.

I don't hate her either but that's because she's too boring to spark any real emotions. Taylor Swift is the very definition of mid. Her picture might as well be next to it in the OED. If she's skilled at anything it's marketing.

I think a substantial portion of the middle-aged women who pretend to (or actually) have parasocial obsessions with her are doing it because they perceive it as a fashionable thing to do or perhaps as a way to connect to a readymade sense of fan community. There's very little to connect people out there these days. People are going to latch on to whatever low hanging fruit they can.

Same, I don’t have any feelings towards her personally, because she just isn’t thought provoking. The same source that I that outlined her sales manipulation described her music as the sonic equivalent of a Netflix special and I thought that was really clever- mass-produced, glossy, appealing to the masses. Kind of insulting to the good Netflix specials, though. From what little I’ve heard and my exposure via pop culture, I think more of Hallmark movies: good production values but hamfisted themes and very formulaic, repetitive plots. Like how many times can you write and album about your boyfriend? I guess as many times as people will buy it lol.

I think anyone who came away from this album with this idea of "MAGA" or "tradwife" is as badly parasocial as her biggest fans and are looking for any reasons to hate her beyond the absolutely obvious.

Taylor's whole persona was of a down to earth, hopeless romantic girls girl.

for a time she was perceived like an untouchable good inspiration for girls around the world. but this facade, as money started piling in, faded out.

She got to remake her albums, even bought the originals. had the eras tour make millions, Kanye now doesn't care about her and people realized that she had a tendency re-release albums as soon as other women get to achieve a number one one.

in addition, her lyrics are not up to the pedestal she put herself in, I think this snowballed into something that we will only get to see in the future

I have a few different friends who consider themselves fans of one of the other, some of them get really into the merch. So I am hearing quite a lot about the feud right now. The latest I've heard is that Taylor fans are trying to cancel Charli for liking a post that called Charli a hard r wigger and Charli fans don't care:

It's kind of weird to hear the normally very woke women I know say it starts with a w that doesn't count, this would normally set them off I think. Apparently the account it came from posts a lot of racist stuff, is small so Charli wouldn't have just come across it, and she unliked the post but the account owner screenshotted it and is crowing about it.

The new album is shit but so was TTPD.

Will Taylor Swift end up being the Zoomer/Millennial's Madonna? It kind of seems like it, both are basically culture vultures who have overstayed their welcome and make extremely bland music that any other girl group in their respective eras blew out of the water.

I'm very neutral towards Taylor, she's just extremely boring to me. Everytime she releases a new album and swifties praise her like she revolutionized the pop genre and is Shakespeare reborn i give the album a listen and find it boring and nothing special. The life of a showgirl is exactly the same as her previous albums, it's the same Taylor sound and lyrics so i don't get why even her fans are pissed off over it. If you have enjoyed her work so far, what changed with this album?

Her response to Charli was also very embarrassing. She could've had the bigger version of the Lorde and Charli situation when they ended up collabing and doing a remix of girl, so confusing which was written about Lorde and she was like i didn't know you felt like that, let's work it out on the remix.

But Taylor would never uplift other artists unless it benefits her (like bringing Ice Spice on stage after her boyfriend had the racism controversy). She will release 500 versions of the same album so the swifties can buy them in bulk or stream them when another female artist's album is close to topping the charts lol.

Taylor definitely comes off as a pretentious mean girl who will step on others if it means making another couple million off the same slop she's always released. She acted as though everyone who hates her new album is just too unread to understand her misinterpretations of high school required reading. From the songs I have heard off the album, it doesn't even fit the theme? I'm so confused, where is the "show girl" part besides a couple lyrics? Not even a jazzy element to anything? It sounds no different than every other album she's put out since, I don't know, the last decade at least. It's worse than bad, it's boring and mean.

Charli had a relatively boring run too between True Romance and Brat with a couple mid 2010s exceptions like Boom Clap, Vroom Vroom, and Break The Rules. She admits through a couple songs on Brat that she felt wildly insecure with how she was doing in her career and wondering if she was making the right choices but that she is happy with her music now. Swifties have been painting Brat as this coked out party girl album when a lot of the songs on it are very vulnerable by pop star standards, not to mention fun to listen and dance to.

The whole "uplifting other artists" thing also bugs the shit out of me because it is something Taylor would never do and something Charli has been doing for years. Number 1 Angel, Pop 2, Charli, and Brat and it's completely different but also still brat are FILLED with features. Brat was an invitation for conversations as citied by Charli herself, that's what the "remix" album was for. Her Coachella weekend 2 outro was made to put the focus on other artists before she left with the brat flag burning. Sympathy is a knife was the furthest thing from a diss and rather than working it out on the remix, Taylor doubled down as if to say Charli should feel insecure. It's just rude, uninspired, and immature.

Most sane Swifties.

I don't feel anything about Taylor Swift, she's just there doing her regular old American pop music. Afaik she doesn't imitate porn "for the girlies" so I don't care.

Id bet you a hundo, that some of these people whine about the "cost of living crisis" all while spending hundreds maybe thousands on a billionaire.

It's not her best lyrically, and Travis is not much of a muse. But I enjoyed more tracks than I thought, and Taylor was clearly having fun while recording and filming the Ophelia music video. She looks gorgeous, and if she wants to sing about dick, who cares. It's not like this is the last album we'll ever get.

I think Actually Romantic was more of a diss on her haters than Charli specifically. But if Charli thinks she needs to turn this into Kendrick&Drake but for white women, then she needs to be 100% into it or not bother. Both women are incredibly talented but only one has the psycho fanbase, and it's not the one doing poppers.

I don't care for Taylor Swift but I noticed she's looking beat down and pillow faced. It feels like she has aged rapidly in the last year.

I saw an interview recently and was convinced it was AI generated because her face was so odd. Turns out she had just recently gotten stuffed with filler, presumably for this rollout.

Life of a Showgirl is 'unbuttered toast with boiled broccoli' levels of bland, which means it will make bank and do well on radio. I'm guessing everyone just got tired of her overexposure?

I think this was a big reason why TTPD was dunked on when it was released, too. Other than it being just Midnights' reheated nachos and a manic jab at Matty Healy, of course.

She was still doing the Eras tour, had started popping up during football games, and was generally inescapable. The best thing for her would be to disappear for a while, focus on her art and that dipshit husband, and generally just reflect and recharge.
