Indian International students drag man behind their car for 2 kilometers.
Are given reduced sentence because of their lack of English, remorse, and risk to the immigration status.
This is bad if you think justice only requires a long prison sentence.
Look at it this way. These two got sentences of over two years, which means federal Canadian prison. Although these are considered overcrowded and awful by the bleeding hearts, the inmates still get their three hots and a cot plus medical care, access to education, conjugal visits and other human rights, all paid for by Canadian taxpayers. Better than India, that’s for sure. The longer they’re in prison, the greater the chance they’ll be able to complete their degrees and (God help us) marry some stupid penpal and breed.
With three year sentences, they’ll serve two-thirds. That’s only two years living at public expense. Because they got sentences of over six months, they can’t appeal their deportation. They’ll soon be removed from the taxpayer tit and comparative luxury of a Canadian prison and sent back to India.
The chances are they don’t come from rich families. Frequently, Indian students come from more modest backgrounds. Their parents quite possibly sold off property and took out loans to get them to Canada. Invest in the son, he’ll get permanent residency, and then we can all go over.
Instead, these two will return in disgrace without even a fancy western degree to help them on their way. Their families’ investments in their education and chance at chain migration are all gone. The convictions and deportations will bar them from other western countries. They’ll find it harder to get married too, as marriages there are much more transactional and these two have less value. They’ll be stuck there as failsons who wasted their families’ money and fucked over everyone’s chance of escape, all because these two drove like they were in India and treated a Canadian like a dalit.
It’s definitely justice of some sort.
