this problem is easily solved by permamently banning everyone with a tranime/cartoon avatar on sight
The few Chud or Chud-like servers are only really mostly active on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 6PM-10PM or a little later.

I'm talking about the average community server/causal server experience. Maybe it's just me getting older, but my tolerance level for bullshit is going down and I just get angry instantly whenever I see a faggot ERPing or a lolicon going "mmm delicious child cunny."

People like to joke that TF2 is dead, but this is a large thing that will kill the game. Part of the fun of TF2 is the social interaction aspect and if the overwhelming majority of players you interact with freaks and weirdos that aren't fun to be around and/or are potentially dangerous, it's going to push a lot of normal people away.

I've seen a number of underage players with fucked profiles and went "Yep, that kid got groomed."

This is an online gaming issue in general, When I played battlefield 6, the chat/voice was dead most of the time and when it wasn't it was retards with their open mics bix nooding about nothing. I remember watching closed BF6 beta footage where players were testing out the chat filters and multiple faggots piped up and went "lol bro really tryin to say slurs."

Marvel Rivals/Overwatch has zoomers posting their Instagram account links after every match.

I might buy back the schadenfreude taunt, shred alert, and a decal just so I can taunt troons after every kill until they break and leave, That was s subtle way to not get kicked and have fun. I'm also going to nut up and buy that shit from the valve store during the winter sale when they're 50% off because fuck giving trannies/bots money.

Okay, found my way into the TF2 corner of this site.

I'll try to be brief. I've been playing since 2016, sometime before the Mayflower case dropped. Stopped playing by 2020 and only came back last year to play MvM with friends for fun and loot. I haven't seen anything since stumbling upon Zesty's thread. Since my time with Quickplay was so brief, I want to understand why people have been advocating for its return so much lately-ish.

And before anything else, yes, I do remember the chaos of the first few months. Queues started out broken and got "fixed" to only take half your lifespan, competitive mode had zero players in its queue, and eventually things seemed to normalize, but now matches feel so incoherent and lopsided that I just don't bother with casual anymore and I don't even understand why this is how it works now or why auto-balance came back.
 
Random crits help mess with potential stalemates because suddenly your entire holdout gets turned to gibs by a few surprise funny glowing rockets. It helps those doing well feel even higher with a little leg-up on their killing spree, but also shuts them down when pablo.minecraft2009 comes round the corner and minces them in the same manner. No matter the skill, we all become equal under the explosion of a crocket.

Since my time with Quickplay was so brief, I want to understand why people have been advocating for its return so much lately-ish.
to summarize the 4 hour long zesty jesus video:
  • Casual mode limits your games to 3 rounds before it loads another map, which was never a thing in quickplay because the map only changed after 45 minutes OR if a majority of players voted while playing to change it after the round ended. This also means that every 3 rounds you have to reload an entire map, even if everyone wants to play the same one.
  • Casual mode creates unbalanced games due to reserving slots for players who may have disconnected, meaning that a slot that would be filled with a player is forced to stay empty. This can be up to 6 people if you have a party that big and means that teams where people are leaving (often the losing team) are doomed even further now due to being down players. Quickplay never had this problem as slot reservations didn't exist and auto balance would swiftly kick in if it got too bad. If you wanted a fix now, you could always call a vote to scramble the teams if the sweep was just too much.
  • Casual mode also disables team scrambles, which was a feature where if a team won too often the players would be shuffled in the hopes of it being a fairer game.
  • Casual mode offers a party system which can have stacks of up to 6 players on the same team, making balance difficult as you could have highly coordinated individuals stacking together on a team together. Quickplay distributed players as they joined evenly between the two teams and, if joining the other team wouldn't create an imbalance, would let you join either team at will.
  • Casual mode removed the ability to just click and join into a server, now matches have to load and find a player, instead of you clicking a server you want to join and play on based on options you have, it decides for you. Quickplay let you just select a game mode and it'd throw you into a Valve server or a community server that met your configured criteria.
  • Casual removed all direction of player traffic to community servers, which killed them, and thus killed a large part of the social aspect of TF2. Quickplay offered more permanent communities with regulars that player could shuffle into and out of, and if they didn't like the experience, could blacklist.

This is all a very big overview, no one really thinks quickplay is perfect, but it was a solution that worked well enough, especially in comparison to casual mode. People want it back since the change would be trivial for Valve to do, literally just revert the code base and apply some patches where needed. Its the easiest, simplest, and quickest fix to many of Casual's woes and would do wonders for making the game a lot more playable.

The image mentions Zesty explicitly as being part of it. This may cause some spergouts.

That's a fantastic overview. I've been trying to get back into the game properly for a long time and never really managed to connect the dots on why I was finding it so frustrating. Thanks for saving me 4 hours.

Of course, the game's issues don't stop at the lack of updates or communication, that much is obvious to me. I have a particular gripe with how modern community maps are so focused on presentation and looks that they forget there's a game to be played, and the way some maps are designed overwhelmingly favor one team over the other, as well as having garbage health/ammo placement such that you're more likely to die before finding anything useful.

I mean, you can kinda just do that. TF2 but unwelcome to trannies and tourists. I haven't been familiar with TF2C and the other offshoots but I've never been particularly interested in the "It's TF2 but the guns are even wackier!" deal. I see some of you guys were discussing how their guns are pretty unbalanced in the past.

Knockout.chat has gotten in on the discussion. Surprisingly, one poster isn't immediately against Zesty and everyone else seems to be taking notice to that and not liking it very much.

Before Quickplay, I used to play on a single server for several hours. Come home, log on, join one (or two) servers, play, leave. Multiple other people did and I would constantly see them in my games. Those were, as far as I'm concerned, official community servers. I didn't even give a thought to adding people to friends because, as long as they play TF2, I'll hop on and likely see them playing every now and then if our gamemode and map tastes match.

Now it's 20 minutes if you're lucky outside of the time extender map pool (Powerhouse, 2Fort, Turbine, etc.), Tobuscus doors in your face, "add me on Discord bruh" or a Steam Friends request. What if I don't want to add you anywhere? Servers were a good digital water cooler spot with no additional expectations. Valve seems to have forgotten that or, realistically, never cared about this at all and didn't fuck up the system that worked perfectly earlier because nothing lit a fire under their money-grubbing kike asses like Overwatch did.
