For some reason SU fans have it in their head that Amethyst is the most neglected out of all the main gems in the show, to the point that they believe the writers are deliberately ignoring her in favor of Pearl. So anything Amethyst doesn't get, whether it ended up canon or not, becomes a personal slight to her fans and that's how we get this stupidity.

For god's sake, they're such pussies that they don't want to go out and say "I think Amethyst is black because she has features a black person does, like a fat nose and fat lips".

The "Pearl is white-coded" bs is both hilarious and sad, because the common thing used to be claiming she was Asian-coded (whether Indian [because of the placement of her gem] or other Asian ethnicity, because she's super smart and pale and therefore Asian duh) until that stopped being convenient.

...lol and this is the fandom that drove zamii to near-suicide, citing one of her pearl drawings as 'an asian stereotype' pretty sure that wasn't even a human AU, it was just pearl with very pale yellow/off-white skin as she can have under certain lighting and her eyes were squinting because she was fucking smiling in that drawing, damnit.
