Fuck off, Valve

On one side, I get it, but on the other, are you aware that this is kind of killing the idea of the Steam Machine, right? Only stupid and stupidly rich people will buy this.

The RAM crisis is shit, yes, but 750 bucks would already be too much (but barely acceptable) but over 1000? And for specs that dont even seem to justify it?

Again, fuck off. You literally murdered this idea.

Also why is Metal Gear Rising still not going on sale?
It hasn't had a discount since last year.

It's strange, it used to be on sale with some level of regularity back in '24-'25. I guess they forgot about it.

/v/ summer sale threads are great ragebait. Seeing people wait 8 months to buy a game on half as deep a sale as the default price of same game on key sites because it was on humble bundle a month ago and thus tanked in price.

Yeah, Steam sales are utter shite now because you can just go on a CD key price comparison site any day and find the game you want for the steam sale price or usually less.

I know there was a big panic a few years ago about peoples accounts getting banned for buying stuff like that but I don't think it was actually happening at all.

They do not care if you do this. I've never known anyone to have a steam account actually banned itself*, including people who are vac banned and doing other types of shit that is infinitely more sketchy than buying a game from g2a or whatever.

*not saying that it can't happen only that you would have to do something WAY worse

Nahh, blame the Euro's for taking away the flash sales.

Why even want a Steam machine? Even disregarding the cost, its just a Valve branded PC isn't it?

Before the price was announced a lot of people presumed that Valve would eat some of the price of the hardware to keep you buying games in their ecosystem. That:s what the console companies do.

Now they're just releasing a mid spec machine at a price that isn't really appealing to anyone so they don't even have the hook of it being an affordable way to play your Steam library.

sorry valve it's overpriced I know everyone's getting totally raped by RAM costs and such but at the end of the day it's just overpriced
Will probably still sell out anyway LOL
i mean you can buy the gabecube with your steam wallet credit so if you sold enough CS cases or TF2 hats...
i am actually interested in the controller more than the GabeCube.

I already explained the appeal to someone like is because I’m going to travel far more frequently now in my life and I liked the idea of having that little square ready to go when I return to the apartament and I feel like just quickly playing something on the TV without necessarily carrying around a gaming PC. Of course there are similar alternatives but it’s Valve, you know? Our guys, the ones that know what we want, how we want, so I thought we were getting something decently strong but with as decent practicality. Nvm the fact that the SteamOS is way better suited to run games than Windows so there is also that.

But here we are, high prices and with a surprisingly very mid to low specs.

Is a laptop too bulky? And forgive me if I'm wrong but I thought the portable box type PC already existed too.
I also travel to work over a few days at a time and my laptop has been a Godsend. I never saw the appeal in the portable PC since you can also have your monitor and keyboard built in on a laptop. Admittedly I don't have to deal with airports, though.

Yes, I did consider a laptop and I dont think the portable box type PC thing is necessarily new, I do recall seeing some pre-built game PCs more suited for transportation and stuff I already mentioned to you. I guess I just never had much of a courage to take the leap for it until Valve announced it, I mean, it was perfect, we do trust these guys so surely its best for me to be patient and wait for the "gabecube" to arrive to suit all my needs. It really seemed to be the best of all worlds and after the Steam Deck was a hit, I had faith Valve would knock it out of the park with the Steam Machine. And, again, that SteamOS was looking mighty good in a world where Windows becomes worse by the fucking week.

I really dont know how much of it I can pin on the RAM crisis or not. Feels like 1000 bucks, even with said crisis in mind, you'd still be able to build something at least slightly more powerful than the Steam Machine while still maintening the portability (at least somewhat).

Edit: Ah yes, I just felt like adding that the Steam Deck also never appealed to me as much because I do have a busy life and pulling that thing to play it in public does make me look like a fucking dork at best or a robbery target at worst. So the Steam Machine matched my more privacy oriented gaming life.
