I personally consider all similar old myths as pagan drivel - but, taking into consideration how North America developed, Americans of European origin thinking Amerinidian myths are "their own" wouldn't really be a problem. Not that it makes much sense, but it was the European settles who built up the continent, afterall.
In this kind of discourse, SJWs noticeably try to coopt something occult, old-world (pagan) and esotheric into their ideology. Not even acknowledge it as cultural heritage, but as some form of rebellion (From mainstream religion(s) as well). If it's European occultism, it's focused on sodomy and transgenderism, if it's non-European people who's history they're exploiting, it's the same thing but with racial liberation infused. I see it as a way to rationalise past degeneracy with modern degeneracy, as in: "Look how progressive the Roman pederasts\Samurais\Turkic men who enjoyed bacha bazi were! Didn't read any of it because I didn't want any SJW attempts at planting a "mind virus", and of course such a claim is blatant bullshit "gaslighting" attempt. This new infestation of "woke" BS -- that is, "identity politics" unique to Current Year -- in Japanese vidya has only begun. It was not really a thing 10 years ago, and certainly wasn't a thing in the '90s.
