Brings me back to some tumblr drama I saw years ago. A user got a callout post for claiming that Steven Universe got cancelled as a joke, and people had panic attacks and shit over it because “THAT SHOW LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE”. Someone else was like “If you are seriously panicking or considering suicide over your rock show being cancelled, then you need to go outside, get some therapy, and maybe get a hobby outside of your rock show idk!”

Remember when Steven Universe had a scene with Pearl and Rose Quartz dancing with implied lesbianism that got censored in Germany I think? And Ruby got changed into a male too. I remember people on tumblr getting into massive hysterics over that. It was pretty funny but if that happened today you would 100% see people threatening to kill themselves and suicide notes getting thrown around everywhere over it. "Erase the gay, I'll erase myself bigot!!1!"

I swear that show was patient zero for a good portion of the artists in this thread. It promoted tons of the current SJW art trends: fat body types, making everything gay, ugly is beautiful, butthole lips, weird noses etc

Not all gifted kids are autistic, and not all autistic kids are gifted.

I don't know, but Steven Universe gives me the vibes of an uglier, whinier harem anime with of course a sole guy then the mostly female cast surrounding him, while the women have their own issues with each other and whatever.

I didn't see much woke messaging in Steven Universe, but Rebecca Sugar is clearly a yuri fujoshi at the very least and just can't keep it out of kids' media. I think it appealed to wokes because the women weren't drawn for "da evul male gaze."

UPDATE: after episode 9 of digital circus, Jax turned out to have secretly been a female name all along! Suffer, pooner, or be labeled as a heccin erasing transmisogynist.

(I know Jax technically isnt an orginal name, but this pooner definitely named herself after the character. Who is now considered a female character by the exact same fandom spheres shes guaranteed to hang out it.)

Half and half. It was boiling in the juices of Tumblr from the beginning of it's creation, where certain elements of the style eventually used in it were already becoming common use. It's popularity made it so that it's no longer niche, but a mass, Tumblr-identifying drawing style that everyone can clock.

Also it was one of the first beanmouth shows. That made the cartoon industry worse, not just hobby artists.
