Sanctioned Suicide - "Kill yourself" but unironically with sodium nitrite. Higher death count than the Farms. Targeted by parents, legislators, and journalists looking to alter Section 230.
We need to come up with nicknames for people who post more than 1000 messages on SS. I go with "NCTB" as in Never Catching the Bus.
Some mofos I found are super NCTB lmao, imagine posting 10k messages and not doing it.

I think shaming them is kind of screwed. Maybe they're just depressed and enjoy the community - I mean there's a sub forum specifically for self help and not killing yourself.

lol, I get your empathy, but when you have on your profile name is "I just want to die" and "death will be my ultimate bliss" with 5k messages, you are being an NCTB poser, which is fine, but it's still funny. Maybe change your profile description to not sound like an edgelord. Also those mofos I found outside the Self-help section.

The live chat is fascinating too. Lots of sorts in there, LARPers, fearmongers, 20 year olds forming the little high school cliques they never had, old men trying to pick up said 20 year olds (wouldn't surprise me if there's Neil Gaiman types in there)

Hard to know. There are supposedly hundreds of deaths worldwide connected to the site, which is tragic obviously but when you take into account there are 50k members and they're all suicidally depressed, it's not really a surprise. It's a tiny percentage that actually go on to CTB. So if the site is preying on people they're doing a really bad job. Although I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell me most of the members are in on the conspiracy. Either way, if the site really is that dangerous all the press attention has driven plenty more people there than ever would've found it before.
I can't believe you hang them on your wall. Every time a journalist tries to talk to you run away like a scared little rat, afraid that Mommy's finna find out what 'marcus has been doing on the internet.
Two weeks and I look forward to your shitting yourself.
It's been over four years since the NYTimes did their chimping and...crickets, with the exception of some ambulance chasers suing Amazon for selling SN.
For most if not all of the parents who were whining earlier in the thread, the statute of limitations for any civil claim has long passed even if s.230 didn't bar the claim.
@PPEcel true but won't stop the parents going after anyone to do with the site and spreading lies about it's mods and members. Have you seen how much some of them talk to the press? I don't mind them criticizing the site it's fair enough, just not the outright lies about members. It's all they can do though since they don't have a leg to stand on. If they really wanna go after the site they should put it all out there-show us the messages their kid wrote on SS and how anyone else pushed them into killing themselves. Let's see all the evidence instead of having a one-sided narrative that their kid just stumbled on the site and a week later CTB out of nowhere.
Sounds like it. Not familiar with that story but it says he had autism, depression, anxiety and had developed a painful neurological condition. Sounds fucking hellish but lets sail past all those completely rational reasons to feel shit about the hand life has dealt you and blame a website for all his problems instead. If his MH had improved as it says he either wouldn't have been on the website in the first place or it improved as a direct cause of him finding a way out. That can be a huge relief.
"Even if people using this forum struggle," says Masha, "no-one knew my brother well enough to make any decisions about his life."
He made his own decision about his life-this is what these family members always fail to get. Once again they've got all the msgs he shared but aren't going to show them as evidence-what are they hiding? Probably that no one encouraged him in the least. These people are always in huge denial.
