I've been wondering for a while what the member turnover rate is for SS. If it's rather low, then it's obvious the site isn't really a threat.
A fuckton of people end up deleting their accounts. Nobody stays for too long, if they don't end up dying they do end up just closing their profile
The live chat is fascinating too. Lots of sorts in there, LARPers, fearmongers, 20 year olds forming the little high school cliques they never had, old men trying to pick up said 20 year olds (wouldn't surprise me if there's Neil Gaiman types in there)

Hard to know. There are supposedly hundreds of deaths worldwide connected to the site, which is tragic obviously but when you take into account there are 50k members and they're all suicidally depressed, it's not really a surprise. It's a tiny percentage that actually go on to CTB. So if the site is preying on people they're doing a really bad job. Although I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell me most of the members are in on the conspiracy. Either way, if the site really is that dangerous all the press attention has driven plenty more people there than ever would've found it before.

Sounds like it. Not familiar with that story but it says he had autism, depression, anxiety and had developed a painful neurological condition. Sounds fucking hellish but lets sail past all those completely rational reasons to feel shit about the hand life has dealt you and blame a website for all his problems instead. If his MH had improved as it says he either wouldn't have been on the website in the first place or it improved as a direct cause of him finding a way out. That can be a huge relief.
