That's why I said Jay likes Night of the Lepers and Killer Klowns from Outer Space more than things like The Godfather or Goodfellas.
Yeah, but I was thrown off by what you said here:

He'll trash universally praised high budget horror classics. Then salivate over the most mediocre forgettable straight to VHS obscure nothing of a movie because it's the hipster thing to do for the audience.
I thought you were trying to say that he pretends to dislike anything that isn't obscure trash. Even though I hated the movie, Nosferatu isn't obscure trash & he loved it. So I wasn't following your logic. But I understand what you meant now. Nosferatu is a hipster approved movie, so that's why he likes it. But while we're on the subject, which "high budget horror classics" has he trashed?

I'm not so sure about Jay only liking low budget and "hipster" horror, either. Horror is all he watches. There's no way he dismisses higher budget films with "merit" by default. His all time favorite is The Exorcist and that one's always included in top 10s of all time, after all.

I'm still not tired of complaining about this. Here's screenshots from the darkest episodes of Widow's Bay. I didn't bother picking them manually this time, it's just a single still every 60 seconds. Again, beware of spoilers.

Forgive me if I come across as a bit autistic here, but shouldn't he dislike Nosferatu then? Similar to Hereditary (another movie Jay loves), Nosferatu is "elevated" horror. It's masquerading as high art, and the critics sang its praises. It's the opposite of lowbrow straight to VHS fare. You seem to be saying that Jay craps on the former and prefers the latter, but that isn't borne out by his opinion of Nosferatu.
I think they are glauming onto Nosferatu because Robert Eggers is one of the only unfettered filmmakers we have today. The VVitch and the Northman landed hard culturally if not in the box office. Nosferatu was his long time passion project and he said as much in several interviews. It was polarizing but it was for sure it's own creative thing. We need guys like Eggers to keep swinging.

More screenshots from Hokum. They are hand picked, but that doesn't mean I'm not trying to be fair. It does look atrocious. Don't click if you want to avoid spoilers.

They are intentionally using extremely weak light sources, too. It just barely illuminates him! My LED flashlight can blast 1000lm and is 1/10th the size of that thing.

You know it's funny because I just started watching Hokum and it opens on this gorgeously colorful shot. I've not watched the rest but I know they'll devolve into darker scenes later because unfortunatley that's what modern horror is. It's just sad because they apparently know what good color looks like!

Same with Widow's Bay. I've actually really liked this series, but the longer it goes on the more it dips into darkness. I honestly don't mind that so much but I think horror can be far more effective when it's out in the open and brightly lit. Here's a few screenshots of it being brightly lit.

All this to say, I like my horror when I can actually see what is going on.
The Wolfman was the worst recent example of this, that movie was so dark it was literally unwatchable

[yes, and] those colors are the tried and true teal and orange :D

He’s not my speed, but I will add along those lines that Oz Perkins is being allowed to make exactly the movies he wants to - for better or worse.

It's weird to see who gets final cut these days. Paul Thomas Anderson, Coen Brothers (who are essentially retired), Robert Eggers is the vanguard of the new generation. "Art house Braveheart" was spot on by Mike.

Jay will make a statement implying that's he's above the culture war nonsense surrounding the film, will probably act bemused that it even exists

They'll show screenshots of people making fun of the film so that they can mock those people for not sucking up the Hollywood slop like the RLM people consistently do

Jay will also spend a decent amount of the runtime sucking off Gunn's past filmography because, like Gunn, the RLM guys love safe-edgy and "subversive" content that is never allowed to be against whatever the mainstream liberal political beliefs are at the time it's made.

They'll both pretend to be nonplussed that the film is doing so poorly and be contrarian faggots and try to claim that it's mostly mediocre

"This is a really great looking film!" "Yeah, the cinematography, the lighting, the framing: James Gunn knows how to craft visuals!" Or some similar bullshit

Why are the online retards upset about Milly Alcock or whatever her name is.

If we're making predictions on Supergirl and what they'll say, I imagine they'll make comments about Craig Gillespie, the actual director of the film. Likely a reference to Lars and the Real Girl, a shoutout to the 1984 Supergirl film, some cracks about Jason Mamoa, and commentary about how a 'murderous quest for revenge' is appropriate for the lighthearted DCU. Probably a mention of Guardians of the Galaxy or how Gillespie's body of work seems to be focused entirely on 'boss girl' types.
