I watched a movie called ‘soldiers girl’, holy shit that was bleak. It reminded me to check into this thread. Just the idea of unstable kids who are capable of bludgeoning someone to death with a baseball bat being given a free pass to operate weapons systems. Imagine how many more just fly under the radar. Yeah, the SAS and SASR both work with JSOC, and we talked about them plenty here. Previously we posted and made fun of a group letter of some SAS officers complaining that excessive prosecution of warcrimes could lead to empowering China and Russia. The letter was clearly made by AI imo.
Have there been any advancements there? From what I read, there have been some rumors about resignations in both the SAS and SASR due to the BRS case and him potentially getting life in prison for warcimes.
First time hearing of that movie as well. It's an old movie too. I'll look more into it.

They say shit like this but they never seem to firmly defend the morality of throwing down guns and radios on unarmed people you shot in order to make it look justified.
If they thought it was defensible and part of wartime morality they wouldn't routinely cover it up. The routine cover up proves they know it's wrong.
The sky-high alcoholism and suicide rates also suggest they know it's wrong.

Actually, the PMC pill is a thing of the past for the most part.
Both Executive Outcomes and Blackwater's story can be seen a short-lived thing for a variety of reasons. They were all a combination of highly trained, unemployed soldiers plus entities (companies or governments) willing to throw money and men at a problem and a law framework and media that had not caught up with the activities of the PMCs.
From what I heard, the PMC endless faucet of funds dried up mid-GWOT, and even when we hear people like Dave Comstock, they are now facing legal repercussions. There's some money in PMC work, but the days of easily retiring from a Tier-1 unit and landing a six-figure salary PMC job are LONG gone. (Military contractors making a killing is still a thing though, just the need for a law-skirting team of door-kicker Rambos has dried up)
In the most recent example reported, it was actually Colombians who are being outsourced the work of Mercenaries in Sudan by the UAE for example, I imagine because of their collective experience in drones from fighting in Ukraine. Link / Archive

"According to an indictment unsealed Thursday, Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke opened an account in late December on Polymarket, one of the best-known prediction markets. He wagered about $32,000 that Maduro would be “out” by January. The bet was a long-shot.
