It makes sense as it allows them to slow roll the “hey guys Pete Parsons completely outkiked us into flushing 3.6 billion dollars down the toilet because Bungie is worth fucking nothing.” If they completely shitcan Marathon then they can’t justify why they shouldn’t impairment loss the studio down to 0 right now which would incense the shareholders into demanding some upper management scalps.
I think also some one at Bungie or Sony is doing some serious coping and pleading. I just have this feeling of total commitment to this product, I don’t know where it’s coming from, but it probably sounds like this:

“Please bro, we have a dedicated 10k player base, People love the game and the the new PvE content is almost finished, they’ll all come back for the new content. We can make it work and you’ll see. Please just another 6 months!”

If Marathon is the game that takes out Hulst, I'll take back some of the terrible things I've thought about Bungie over the years.

And possibly give some more credit to that schizo theory of "Bungie is an Xbox Plant!", but that ones mostly for personal lulz

I think its called Sunk Cost Fallacy. Right now, Sony has about 3.7 Billion reasons they want to keep Bungie, and by proxy Marathon, on some form of life support, and someone in Upper Management is probably sweating bullets on which heads will roll if they have to tell the shareholders they burnt almost $4B and have less than nothing to show for it.

How are there people playing this???
That’s the best part!

They aren’t.

All this chat I'm seeing about the devs making hasty changes on the fly is giving me flashbacks to Anthem, where Bioware focused on literally everything but what the remaining players were actually asking for (loot that made the handful of endgame activities actually worth running).
I remember hatewatching gameplay of Anthem with a friend who had gotten to endgame while it was still a thing and we got to take the piss out of how much it sucked. There was a moment I was skipping through the gameplay video and managed to land on the "stand in circle and wait for meter to fill up" objective three times in a row in totally different parts of the game.

They give your player character a jetpack and then they don't use it for anything. You just fly to the next objective with it. Occasionally you can hover in the air and shoot dudes from below but that never matters because every enemy is a ground-bound humanoid of some type. Anthem is the most designed-by-committee game ever made.

Steam reviews are clearly being tanked by weirdo diehards that are throwing a pissfit because they can't get NeW cOnTeNt, weird twitter accounts exist solely to talk shit about the game, and there are entire subreddits dedicated to shitting on Marathon. I'm sorry the $60 game that you got to enjoy for 10 years doesn't have new content coming (you can still play TEN YEARS of content lol) and sorry you're going to have to wait a bit longer for a new one (if the studio survives).
No, @BurpIncorporated, Destiny is not sixty dollars. It is free-to-play. With all expansions it is around 200 dollars, currently. This is me being generous and leaving out the ~$300 worth of DLC that they tore away from people with no refund or compensation with the "Destiny Content Vault."

Anthem pissed me off so fucking much. I remember trying it at an early stage (it was free at some point, wasn't it?) and fucking loved the flying mechanic. The game was obviously (originally) built for/around the idea of aerial combat and exploration with nimble jetpack-equipped mechs.

Then they shat themselves and did nothing with it in order to turn the game into ... whatever trend they were chasing. Fucking assholes.

well, that's 95% of destiny 2, spawning baddies to shoot sometimes but you do need to stand in the circle and wait for the random bullshit meter to fill up.

not sure why people are celebrating when the people responsible for this thing existing (the executives) are still working for the company and arent having their lungs pulled out of them while theyre still alive by the people who they shafted from the company (actual developers)
Because when you slaughter a thousand orcs it doesn't matter of Sauron is still out there, you killed a fucking thousand orcs and they're gonna run out of them eventually.
You've killed Gorlag the Blue Haired, Ugg the Pronouned, Korakh the Pridemonthed, and many other of Sauron's captains.

These are all our enemies. We are seeing them CRUSHED and driven before us! And the lamentations of their non-binaries on bluesky.
The executive's ends are inevitable and they know there's only so much fodder they can throw before they're all that's left.

One battle at a time.
