The editing was just a mess in the recent episode, but Alicent in the book is barely in it. They clearly do not know how to write for her and need to keep her til she an-heroes.
To be fair, her main contribution is wearing the green dress. After that, she's been around but she's not been a big participant in the way Rhaenyra was.

I long for Matt Smith scenes because he is a pretty good Daemon, and they are OK with him being such a morally grey character.
Daemon is the star of the story, tbh. Martin loves the guy and he's an amazing character.

My biggest problem with the show is where is Mushroom? is there no Midgets to hire in Hollywood? Wee Man from Jack ass would have played the role for an 8 ball and a hooker.
I honestly don't see how he could be included, but I would have made him some sort of narrator that's highly unreliable and we the audience could see that.

And yeah, the only reasons to watch this are Daemon Chadgaryen and Nigga Sea Snake. Yeah the Velaryons aren't black but dude is a great actor and always carries whatever scene he's in
I agree he's an amazing actor, but I can't take him seriously due to those ridiculous wigs. The Velaryons deserved normal Valyrian hair.

Ok so I just finished the season premiere. They have 8 episodes this season, right? Like they had 8 in each in the first two seasons. Why do things feel so rushed then? I'm getting major GoT Season 6-8 vibes from this pacing. None of the characters and none of the scenes themselves were given room to breathe. Also you could land a 787 on Olivia Cooke's forehead

One thing I do appreciate about this show is how unromantically it portrays the dragons.

After how much Game of Thrones lavished Dany's dragons in constant invulnerability and glamor shots it's actually nice seeing the dragons in this show being portrayed as just another fact of war. Especially Sheepstealer, the other domesticated dragons fly with a lot of deliberate effort, Sheepstealer flies in this weird lazy swooping fashion, like he has time to spare and doesn't really need to be anywhere right now. Kind of like Vaegar, except he isn't old he just isn't trained. He only speeds up when someone pisses him off, which I love. A lot of time and care went into the animation for the dragons.
Makes sense Alicent is barely in the books, she really hasn't done anything meaningful past the first season.
You mean you don't find 'scene of woman suffering' meaningful?

You want this female character to do something of consequence for once? What are you a misogynist?

It's just ironic that a show that is been promoted as feminist has such a poor female characterizations.

I'm gonna say that the female writers simply don't think this is the case, they think that female suffering, specially passive suffering, it's more or equally enticing to watch as an actual war and political conflict, because that's what this type of women likes to watch.

The entire ending of Game of Thrones literally has the dragons burn down an entire city and kill probably half a million people. And two of them die to harpoons or lances being hurled into them. And the last one just flies off to wherever. Their ending in the main timeline isn't exactly optimistic or romantic either. Part of that was by design to suck the viewer into rooting for Dany and her dragons. Only for them to massacre a city of innocent commoners.

im just really glad it seems were going to avoid seed planting for rhaneyra to believe Daemons sleeping with his own daughter as the reason she orders her executed for treason

and instead will just go with shes the reason her first born son is dead.
Nettles? Cutting Nettles was a ridiculous choice. I didn't get the impression she was actually his daughter from the books, and thought it was just a common rumour at the time to 'save his reputation', even though it was known Daemon had a thing for young girls. You get the sense Rhaenyra feels like even Daemon is abandoning her, for a peasant, bastard girl of unknown non-Valyrian ancestry (though so much of the Maidenpool/Nettles section is murky and possibly made up by Lord Mooton to save his own skin). Rhaenyra's paranoia over losing everything, her children, her crown, her unclehusband, is what causes her to lash out and act like an idiot and lose everything. Nettles also provides a parallel to the first Valyrian shepherds who first learnt how to tame dragons, and how the dragonbond possibly worked before all the blood sorcery shit. It's totally retarded that the showrunners made the Velaryons black but cut the only black/mixed character in the book.
They fucking made Toobs out to be this badass pirate girlboss when all their scenes were cringey as fuck. Did Toobs bribe HBO to insert his OC badass character that just wastes time and basically hands the battle over to the Blacks?
I would not be surprised if a lot of his scenes (and Daeron's) were rewritten due to a lot of backlash after reaction to S2 and the S3 leaks

>feminist show
>lead female actor is a non binary who isn't like other girls
wrap it up

Feels like they cut the last chunk out of Season 2 and welded it onto the start of Season 3 instead. The Gullet 100% feels like it should've been the Episode 9 of a normal 10-ep GoT season in the vein of something like Blackwater (big flashy battle sequence, at least one major character death). The failed Lannister campaign in the Riverlands (even if it's condensed into just the Fishfeed where the Rivermen + Northmen pwn Jason Lannister, who had canonically already died several battles before that point) feels like something else these people should've and maybe wanted to portray on-screen instead of just cutting straight to the Lannister army being dead & the Winter Wolves throwing Jason's severed head at Daemon after they were hyped up in the end of S2, but didn't have the time or budget to do.

(Another battle sequence would've also been a better investment of the budget they did have than the endless scenes of Alicent & Rhaenyra being at best useless or at worst sabotaging their own causes, but nobody ever accused Hess & Condal of being good with money or being able to put the good of the story above doing something they can ideologically jack/jill off to...)

I like Sheepstealer's weird fuckass design. Giving a wild dragon an underbite is just brilliant if you ask me.

i did like how jace's death was so prosaic after how dramatic they depicted luke's death

vermax gets shot too many times, falls in the water. jace unhooks himself from the saddle, comes to the surface right beside a triarchy ship. he gets shot by a bunch of crossbowmen and dies. that's it. no dramatic camera angles, no dramatic face shots, no dramatic slow motion. he just gets shot and dies

Would be even funnier if he was shot by a bunch of Nigger Velayron troops

Had a chat with my folks who are catching up on it (Dunk and Egg reignited the spark for them) and they utterly despise Rhaenyra.

They’re not full Team Green but their normie opinion is Viserys hard-carried S1 and Daemon is the most interesting part of the show and my old man in particular was furious that he’s spending a season “tripping balls in Dracula’s castle.”

Didn’t have the heart to tell them God’s Eye is coming, show is gonna lose its Soldier Boy and Homelander in one swoop, which is unfortunate.

Funniest part of the new episode was “The Adventures of Club and Egg” and Larys being every DND character who’s “winging it.”

and of course they only had one brief scene of it

we should have gotten club and egg having to deal with some smallfolk on the road, club and egg at an inn or a small holdfast, then have them captured. spread it out over eps 1 and 2

Rhaena has usurped nettles role in the show.

Rhaenyra says nettles has bewitched her husband which is her justification for ordering her execution

Since rhaena is now taking nettles role of things continued according to the book she would accuse daemons own daughter of bewitching him.

Instead you now just have rhaenyra probably exile rhaena for causing jaces death and once the other dragon seeds betray her/die she can order her execution becayse shes gone off the deep end from paranoia

Well that would require more of the Greens being the better cast of characters and that would take away from the mutant dyke squatting on the island of the Mannis (even before he’s born it’s his).

Like Alicent is a crazy, inconsistent, ruined character but it’s very funny that her two fuckups are completely out of her control and getting “Viserys midnight visits” is looking very much back on the menu. Bitch makes Cersei look competent.

The irony... Cersei's supposed to have some parallels with Rhaenyra, heh.

Love how retarded it was that the Guards listened to the Crown Prince and not the Queen by locking her in her room.
In reality, the guards should have reported this brazen treason to the queen and had the crown prince be locked in his room, A) because he's still a prince, still outranked by a queen, and B) he's the next hope of the dynasty.

Especially since, reproductively speaking, a young virile prince is a far more important investment than a queen who may not be so fertile in her advanced age. He can sire heirs way easier.

Didn’t have the heart to tell them God’s Eye is coming, show is gonna lose its Soldier Boy and Homelander in one swoop, which is unfortunate.
Basically, the war stops being interesting after both sides lose their Sephiroth counterparts.
