Have any monkeys ever achieved sapience?

Monkeys are all in some stage of early Stone Age, their tool usage is no different from early humans, Capucins can get a little more complex, with them shaping the rock to suit different tasks.

Oh, you can describe it for days, there's so much to say.

For example, we are, as far as we're aware at least, we're the only species that has the ability to contemplate it's own existence.
We're capable of meta thoughts, we can think about thinking.
Then of course there's the written language and with it, the ability to pass on really complex things to future generations which can improve upon it and pass on an upgraded version even further.

When it comes to puzzle solving, we can have one smart human solve it and then, we can pass on the knowledge of how to solve it to everyone else.
For example, you don't need to figure out how to solve the rubix cube, you can look up a detailed tutorial made by someone who figured it out before you, making it really easy.

We are a unique species and many things make us special.
you are probably right that we are the only ones who have been able to do that. but couldn't it be possible a monkey was born somewhere at least one time out of a billion who was also cursed with self awareness?

I’ve heard rumors monkeys are good at popping balloons that come towards them in a tower formation

Where does being an animal stop and being saptient begin?
We need to establish where that line is since monkeys can and do use tools, form tribes and wage war on each other

I love apes and gorillas so much. I wish I could be friends with them, maybe one day.

Kanzi the bonobo was said to be exceptionally intelligent amongst his peers. Sapient? Probably not but very close.
He was able to collect materials for a campfire and light it with a lighter, and then cook marshmallows over them.
He also played a simplified version of Minecraft when he was alive and beat it.

Most intriguingly, an ethnic tribal dance performer(s) came to the bonobo’s sanctuary to perform for them as testing. All of the bonobo’s took the rapid movement and loud noises as threat displays and reacted erratically and with aggression.
Kanzi however sat calmly and later gestured for the performers to do it again once the other bonobos had left. This last point is more anecdotal and most likely biased. Fascinating if true though; the ability to recognize something all of his fellow apes could not is Caesar level.

I believe as far as general species go though, Orangutans are probably the most insightful and creative of the great apes. Second to us.

that sounds like something from an RPG.

i think about helen keller who was more intelligent than most other people but didn't learn language until later on in life. although i doubt those monkeys could be taught language like she was. feels bad comparing her to a chimp or whatever
