I went down the Blonde Hair Theory rabbithole and now I'm very curious: Kiwisisters who have had different hair colors, how were you treated differently with each color? Is it true that blondes really do have more fun?

If you're white, not fat, keep up with your dye job decently and do minimal makeup daily, most guys will perceive you as attractive if that's what you're aiming for. Just figure out your undertones before you get your heart set on any specific shade/look.

funny story: I bleached my hair from medium brown to ash blonde and straightened it and my dad didn't even notice until I told him I went to the hair salon a couple days after I did it.

Had so many different hair colors in my teen years but blonde was never my favorite to have. Maybe my skin tone is just too pinkish for it. I'll always remember the day I went from red to dark brown though, my male coworkers wouldn't stop starting at me the whole day. Someone told me "you just look so..... mysterious now"
What i've learned from all my experimentation is that usually your natural hair color (or a few shades away) looks best on you. Almost like god intended it or something.

I have a weird autism thing about hairdressers.

Any tips for self-trimming? It goes to the middle of my back, hair is quite fine and wavy, but there is a lot of it. I've read about the scrunchie method but am a bit scared of doing it all at once and making a monumental fuckup.

I end up just trimming random bits that look straggly then trying to even out, and not daring to wear my hair down cos I have no idea if there's random uneven clumps. I guess scrunchie method is better than that.....

I enjoy having had my hair cut properly and wearing it down, but the actual process is so excruciating that I only go every couple of years.

Does anyone else know if that Vayose hair brush is worth a damn? I've had it recommended to me as I'm trying to get my hair back to a point where it won't build up so much oil and I can go longer between washes. I usually wash my hair everyday.

When I used to keep longer hair, I would just do a ponytail haircut on myself every so often. It makes layers, but I’ve never fucked myself up by doing it.

Speaking of going to the hairdresser, I had my hair cut short in a style that I hated around this time last year. I’d asked for a bob, showed the stylist a picture, and she cut my hair into almost a pixie. I spent all year growing it out, and then I went to another hairdresser to try again for the short style I wanted a few weeks ago… and it happened again. The same exact thing happened again.

I’m thinking that I either lack the vocabulary to ask for what I want, or hairdressers have trends they follow and the latest one just looks like shit on me. There’s nothing I can do for myself now except grow it out again, but I’m never going back to a salon. Just came here to kvetch about it *sigh*

Seconding this for cutting your hair by yourself. I don't trust stylists not to take some creative measure and cut like three extra inches off so I only cut my hair by myself. If you have curly hair your curls will hide the slight unevenness that a DIY will inevitably create. If you want a little less layering, do a pigtail cut.

Buy scissors designed for cutting hair. You can get entry level hairdressing scissors for €30-50, and the you get a much cleaner cut with them compared to normal kitchen/office scissors.

I will be the first shill this since no one else has mentioned them: Davines.
Absolutely LOVE their products, I have thick & wavy hair and they're so much better than anything else I've tried.

I struggled with frizz for months until I tried this once, it makes my hair sooo soft and light. I also use the curl building serum and replumping shampoo (it smells like plum!), about once or twice a week
They are costly but I honestly think it's worth it

I need tips: I have greasy hair (long) and an appointment tomorrow, how can I make it not look like total garbage?

Put dry shampoo in it tonight instead of in the morning or before you leave for your appointment. It needs time to work, and your hair will look and feel way better.

I went blonde once, for several months, and I can't honestly say men hit on me more than usual or I was treated better. Then again, I'm a true/cool winter type, and I think blonde was just washing me out.

I never noticed much difference with how I was treated when blonde (maybe because my hair was almost blonde to start with), but dyeing my hair red as a teen brought all the superfreak men to the yard. It was total pervert catnip.
Same, but for me, sadly, it was being seriously underweight. Some moids are drawn to any sign of female mental issues like it's a fucking beacon.

This. I have dark brown hair and I went black once, only to discover it was too overwhelming for me, but going only one or two shades darker than my natural color turned out fine. I had a friend who had natural light blonde, but very thin hair she kept dying black and it looked limp and greasy even freshly washed.

A few weeks ago I finally gave up after around 10 years siliconefree and went back to products with certain silicones in it and wow, things improved for sure, especially my hairtips feel much better. Less hairloss during detangling too.

Funny that its hard these days to find things with silicones and without polyquatts in them. For now I just have a leave-in, but I'm eyeing a deep conditioner if my current products gonna be used up. Curious if that will change anything. I have thin high porosity hair that breaks pretty quickly.

I recently purchased the Ouai Fine Hair shampoo and I need to confess, it is amazing. It smells great, feels so smooth, and leaves my hair really hydrated.
I also own Olaplex 4C clarifying shampoo for weekly use, but it does leave my hair terribly dry.

what else are you using in your hair that you need a clarifying shampoo once a week? i recommend using a vinegar rinse instead, doesn’t dry your hair out as much and they make some really good ones.

I'm not using anything specific on my hair, it's natural.
However, I heard it was good to use a detox shampoo every once in a while ( I use it every two weeks, I don't know why I said weekly ), especially when you have hard water.

I will definitely try the rinse though.

Just tried this and it's a legit holy grail find. Shiny finish and affordable price. Made my hair feel nourished and easy to brush without making it look greasy.😄

Another update. After months of bond repair treatments, heavy nourishing masks and hair oils I'm happy to report that the lightweight serum is no longer appropriate and I've now graduated to the next one up meant for medium to thick hair.

My hair texture is still fine, but I have more fullness now and one pump from the red bottle works like magic. My hair is salon finish bouncy.

I was thinking about buying some Kent brand combs for both the hair on my head and the hair on my face.

I'm naturally blonde and besides the one-time foray into red/copper or temporary purple dye I've always been that way. I don't get out as much as I'd like but...no one hits on me anyway. Honestly, I can't tell if people treat me different because of that since I have no experience to judge.

Also by being blonde, my eyebrows are pretty light. I don't do anything with them besides occasionally shaving around then to keep them neat. Has anyone had experience with dying brows? I'd probably do it with a professional first, and get juuuust a light enough brown for them to be noticable. There's makeup for that, but I'd rather not have to touch it up daily if I can help it.
