I really don't want to have to pay absurd prices for a Steam Key for the original versions.

Though, I heard that, should you buy the trilogy from the Rockstar Launcher, they will also include the original versions. Maybe I'll try that.

I'm only now finally getting interested in playing through these games to finally find out what all the hype surrounding the upcoming sixth game is about, and whether or not I will share in it.

You don't have to you fucking RETARD. You pirate them, rockstar don't give a fuck. Then you can add the EXE to your steam library if that helps you sleep at night.

The rockstar games launcher is a shitty experience for the games and if you love them it makes it hard to mod them.

Play them of your own accord, not as tests. The series is a lot different than the originals now.

That was a limited time act of goodwill, not a permanent bundle.

We will be adding the classic PC versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back to the Rockstar Store shortly as a bundle. Additionally, everyone who has purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PC from the Rockstar Store through June 30, 2022, will receive these classic versions in their Rockstar Games Launcher library at no additional cost. We will update everyone as soon as these are back in the Rockstar Store.
Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll find some way to play the old games first, mark my words. And it won't be the definitive editions.
I think there's some kind of archive database that exists on the Internet to find lost media.

I looked, and they were taken down from the archive, unless I'm not looking hard enough

EDIT: Nevermind, I found them. Now what mods are best to play them?

Unless it's best to just play unaltered 1.0 versions first.

(seriously, check the credits on the DE versions, as well as RDR2, a good third or so, maybe more, are jeet names)
The jeet branch was established in 2016 and expanded in 2019, so literally everything after was touched by jeets in varying degrees. Seeing the crappy work of the Sanjays in GTA Online lately (yeah I know, Online is crap, bla bla bla, but it will have a strong influence in VI whether people like it or not, so I've been paying attention to it) is worrying and depressing.

RIP, Sonny Rollins, an artist that is best remembered by his contributions to GTA 4

I enjoyed his twisted metal series
I didn't. He doesn't know half as much about TM as he thinks yet he has such a smug-sounding voice about it.
That and he still refuses to admit Jaffe is insane, that Campbell was the real brains behind TM's success, and still clings to Jaffe as a "mad genius" despite TM being the only thing he got right in his life (and still ruined that too later on).

GTA never did melee combat well.
They didn't need to.
It's Grand Theft Auto, not Street Fighter.
It's trying to be this "great at everything" jack of all trades that makes contemporary GTA bland and boring. No game can be top notch at everything without losing it's identity and focus.
IV and VCS's melee was serviceable enough for what the games needed.

I can't stand the new DLC's for V Online, every protagonist/antagonist is so painfully annoying that I've stopped playing them entirely.
The Juggalo dealers who replaced Trevor made me swear I'd never touch GTA V again.
I'm not buying VI until it's half-off, minimum, precisely because I can't stand these characters that are but guaranteed to litter the game.

It was the one franchise that even the most ardent Rockstar defenders felt was a bit too much.
Lies. I'll still defend it, tone-wise.
If people can defend TLOU2, I can defend Manhunt 2. It's 1000% less gay, for starters.

If GTA is problematic now, Manhunt would not have a chance. Or even worse, it'd be a sociopath's wet dream in reality. You've seen these games that outright vilify their political opposition with little to no decorum.
Nah, games with edge-yet-something-to-say still get made. (somewhat) recent games like Cruelty Squad come to mind.
It's just that mainstream studios live and die by quarterly earnings and appearing politically correct; so nothing but "current thing with the pre-approved message" is allowed.
Yay.

Red dead redemption 2 has a good melee system going for it and it shines the best in the first fight demonstration the series had before release in the mission with the big man bar fight where he tossed Arthur out the window. Probably the best they've done aside from Bully/Warriors. I feel the intensity of every punch, and I love knocking enemies into walls and slamming their heads against it, but I wish they let you actually grab and direct enemies like Bully did. To this day I think Bully was their best melee game, I don't play Warriors much.

However it was very satisfying to find out the special moves Niko has when you really get good at the melee fight system. The way he can finish off NPCs was really cool and I wish GTA V still had that and with different fighting styles between protagonists.

I think even Luis and Johnny Klebitz had their own unique melee finishing moves.

Still early into GTA III.

All I’ll say is that I’m impressed by how believable the world is for a game made in 2001. However, mechanically, it really shows its age, and I’m not exactly sure that it will be enough to convince me that the series is deserving of its mega mainstream success.

GTA III pretty much defined the genre of 3D open world crime sandbox game, it was groundbreaking, everyone was talking about it. Then VC and SA were both stellar followups, so GTA became the gold standard for the genre going forward and there was always immense hype around the next release. It also helped that every other game Rockstar released in the 2000s was excellent too.

I think 6 will be their last. The online component will become even more of a milking parlor than GTAVO, and I would bet money on the fact that they really want it to be a live service game and are working towards making that happen. They already know they have many dedicated whales and they have had plenty of time to observe how Fortnite makes their money.
This scares me. Guest characters in gtao. GTA plus is already a battle pass wouldn't surprise me if they switch it up to yearly options and of course tiers for this cash cow.

This is what I meant by "their last", it doesn't necessarily mean GTA is ending, it's just going to be a live service game with a subscription, microtransactions, seasonal content etc, intended to be forever updated instead of any new entries coming out after it. Seems like a no-brainer from a business point of view. I guess we will see.
