Futbol thread.

I'm begging for a game of horror tackles where the ref completely loses it. Belgium vs US might be the best chance we get it all tournament.
USA-Belgium will be super physical but in a scrappy way where they are playing hard, not in a "I want to hurt you" way like you see with Middle Eastern and South American teams.

No lies detected.

The sole reason FIFA even gave the tournament to the Americans is because COMNEBOL and CONCACAF were being rumored to merge and create a bloc powerful enough to create, at best, a parallel WC, and at worst, attempt to usurp FIFA outright.
Whole thing is fucked anyways when you look at bidding process for the next two world cup hosts. All the bullshit they did to try and get Saudi Arabia in for 2030 (part of their 2030 rebrand) but secured 2034 instead by rule changes and buying everyone out. Same people who own that Garou video game and put Ronaldo in as a fighting game character because some Saudi probably wanted them in.

Someone (sorry I forget who) said it in chat last night, "Would this uproar be so loud (around Balugon), if it had happened because Kamela had given Infantino a blowie to get Balugon's red card suspension... suspended? I could only recoil at the visual the hypothetical painted, but I suspect the outrage would not be as high, simply because, "TRUMP! ORANGE MAN BAD!"

Let's be real, the offenses to humanity in Russia, Qatar, Saudi, even Brazil back in '14, are far worse. It maybe is a little different since this is affecting play on the pitch (slightly more, you could argue about Qatar), but they literally did the same thing for Ronaldo to be able to participate in pool play, and that was a clear red.

Fuck FIFA, but fuck the hand-wringing. You don't like how corrupt FIFA is? Get your own Infantino cocksucker, or leave FIFA. Or at least vote Infantino out - there are ways to swing third world FAs.

And if you're Belgium? Here's transfermarkt's valuation of the two teams:

Even with Balugon on the US side, Belgium's squad is worth 40% more than the US side. If you can't beat the US, even with Balugon, then fuck off.
(Yes, I know there are issues with Transfermarkt's valuation, as it favors younger players over 30+ year old players. You telling me Tim Read is gonna tip the scales in this case? Or that De Bruyne doesn't have a larger impact than his $8mil valuation?)

I get that people are upset about the opaqueness of FIFA. That hasn't changed under Infantino. There are probably thousands of ways officiating and rules could be handled better. That's not to FIFA's advantage. The opaque / oblique rules and rulings are a feature to them.

Ostatnio edytowane:
The USA wouldn't be a man down though. They can still field 11 players even if the red card was upheld.
Right, but Balugon has more goals for the US than any other player in the tournament, so he would be a key loss, even if it's still 11 on 11. The backup striker isn't nearly at Balugon's level.

I was kind of looking forward to how we'd do against Belgium without Balogun too.

Statements and counter statements are flying all over the place, I'm starting to wonder if there's a possibility that Belgium withdraws from the tournament.

That would be dumb since Belgium is better than the US with or without Balogun. Thibaut Courtois is a black hole in goal, why would they be worried about the US team?

Besides, all they're doing is playing for a chance to get raped by Spain.

Shouldn't have been sent off them. Belgium has every right to complain, they have been preparing for a USA team without their best player and now suddenly a day before the match all that preparation is null and void because FIFA decided to bend the rules in one of the hosts' favour.
