"Dr" Rob aka Monklife Meditation aka Bhante Varrapnyo
One of my friends sent me
this video from Matan Even where a Rabbi and "Buddhist monk" debate. It is your standard Matan Evan shitshow but it sent me down somewhat of a rabbit hole. The "Buddhist monk" in question has his own YouTube Channel
Monk Life Meditation (he also goes by Dr Rob, MonkLife, Monk Life Meditation or Bhante Varrapnyo) where he constantly does livestreams
begging for money.
[1] [2] Just for reference, he is not a Buddhist monk, he claims to have been one for 7, 8, or 9 years (depending on what day of the week you ask). He is a (
fat)
[1] white American guy who currently lives in Vietnam and married an (ugly) Vietnamese woman. (he also constantly talks about how he wants to get Ozempic) My understanding is that it is very uncommon for a monk to defrock after such a period of time, leading to allegations of some sort of misdeed. He engages frequently in
attention-seeking behavior [1] [2] such as
covering himself in paint,
engaging in weird discord drama, screaming,
berating the audience, and getting mad at "
trolls". Seriously, any of his streams (which are hours long) feature all of these things. (
unfortunately, Rob was in fact circumcized)

He also has invited people to call/text him on livestream via Whatsapp (for donations of course) You can easily find it on his livestreams.
It should also be noted that despite calling himself a Doctor, he has no accreditation from any academic or religious institution. He has drawn ire from many Buddhist redditors; consistently being considered a fraud, attention whoring, making multiple accounts online to boost his profile and bait engagement.
[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] For those who are unaware, it is explicitly prohibited for Buddhist monks, particularly in the notoriously strict Theravada tradition (which Rob was a monk in) to beg for donations, perhaps making some sense as to why he defrocked. Among these posts you can find redditors who personally interacted with Rob sperging out in various Buddhist discord servers, they rarely mention specifics but it may be an avenue worth pursuing.

Now, Dr. Rob is not alone in this bizarre white-guru e-begger lolcow sphere, as he has his foil one
Shiva Kailash Shambho. Shiva also lives in Vietnam (born in Ukraine of all places supposedly, but Canadian), and is a follower of some kind of bizarre Indian guru cult that I honestly can't even begin to give a fuck about led by this
Sadhguru guy. (
holy shit he is retarded) You have probably seen his videos online because clips of him are fucking everywhere. The two of them constantly livestream together, usually with Rob berating Shiva for being schizophrenic and
poor while Shiva just gives the fluoride stare and reads donations. (
Shiva also lives in a shitty Vietnamese hotel for locals where a rooster wakes him up every morning at 3 am) Shiva's poverty is particularly fruitful, as he clips many Youtube shorts, including the one that inspired me to make this post,
apparently Rob had 'lolcow' as one of the banned words in his chat.

While the relationship between these two individuals appears to be antagonistic, many viewers as well as myself suspect that these two are actually in cahoots with one another, splitting donation revenue from livestreams (
check the top comment), and
having general homosexual tension.
Recently, during one of the pair's regular livestreams, Rob revealed that he is, in fact not poor, and quite well-off. The tl;dr is that Rob claims to have bought bitcoin when it was at $3k, and has since sold it all off, leading to him being 'very wealthy'. He also makes it a point to flex on Shiva for having a better apartment, better technology, the ability to play GTA 6 (when it comes out), and marrying a "wealthy" Vietnamese wife whose family owns "multiple properties". This is despite the fact that he has been begging for donations every day for hours for months. Beginning at
3:26:16 he states that his entire career has been a troll to get money/fame, that he was lazy, didn't want to get a real job, and that he was never ordained as a monk, How much of this is true remains to be seen. It is also very likely that Rob was on drugs this entire stream.
I am not really sure how much of this is drama and theater so Shiva and Rob can sustain their degenerate expat lifestyle, or if there is genuine animosity between the two. It all feels like it could be some kind of gay theater, and I wonder if I am just giving them what they want by making this post, but this is too bizarre not to share.
