DC Comics Multimedia General - A crisis of infinite fuck ups

Great job building up your cinematic universe by stating that the second movie isn't canon.
The impression I got from him from his old tweets is that he is a closet chud
He's a cannibalistic humanoid undergr--oh, you mean the other kind of chud.
Needless to say Supergirl shattered those illusions. There’s no excuse for him to have approved a movie that bad. My opinion of him now is that he is a one trick pony at best.
I enjoyed Superman well enough, but it feels like the honeymoon phase has ended if the media is this desperate to convince the public Supergirl is only bombing thanks to the "manosphere".

For the record, I did too. I think Gunn’s Superman is a movie that changes entirely depending on your mindset. If you are outright tired of the 'evil Superman' fad (Injustice, Omni-Man, Homelander, etc.), or you just like the MCU/GOTG style, the chances of you liking this movie are high. And sure enough, many normies did.

But if you compare it to the best versions you can see elsewhere, like the comics, and especially in animation, you are more likely to see the flaws or even dislike it. Such as his soy-boy tendencies, Gunn using Superman to project his daddy issues, and how this is yet again another band of misfits, etc.

Christopher Reeve keeps the crown as the gold standard.

I cannot imagine Christopher Reeve Superman being upset about tweets, it's such a pathetic dumb thing to cause Superman to crash out and start screaming about, at most Reeve Superman would have been bemused by the whole thing.

This would be his reaction to a fucking tweet saying 'supershit';

then he would move on and forget about it because he is an adult and not a terminally online james gunn-esque loser, but gunn had to turn superman into a thin-skinned whiny bitchmade cuck just like him.

I guess I will earn some rainbows from this, but it wasn’t faith on his writting skills, but more like I thought he at least would have good taste. Enough to at least pick the best actors, and good enough scripts.

The impression I got from him from his old tweets is that he is a closet chud. The kind of guy that will say he hates Trump in public , but make rankings of the hottest women in Marvel behind closed doors.

He started out at Troma, and you’re expecting him to have taste?

Actual Superman would laugh and when Lois glares at him, obviously more upset about it than he is. Superman would follow up with "Not that I am condoning the casual use of profanity."

Superman just has to written competent and confident. It's real easy.

He’s very chad in an understated way.

Clark is the type of guy to go “HA!” and then compose himself and apologize but not mean it because he found whatever made him laugh really funny and he’s saving it for later.

I think you nailed it. The reason it feels off is because Gunn’s Superman reacted with hurt ego, and that’s not him.

It’s not accurate to say Superman doesn’t care about public image insofar as he wouldn’t like regular people fearing him, There’s a reason he runs around with an S on his chest and a cape. He is not Batman. He wants people to see him and feel safe around him.

But that’s not what Gunn’s Superman did. It wasn’t worry about others that bothered him, but pure ego and pride. One of the many ways Gunn self inserted on him. It was an obvious allegory of him being fired due to his tweets by Disney,

Crying about people trolling you is wounded pride, and having Superman cry about is out of character.

I can at least understand Clark losing his temper during the "interview" with Lois. It was in privacy, it was late at night, and Clark was probably on edge with the political scandal he accidentally caused.

Superman furiously barging into Luthor's office and demanding Krypto back is another story. For someone who's a reporter in his civilian life, you'd think he would realize this would mean bad press for the Man of Steel.

I really hate to compare this movie to a more beloved adaptation, but here's Superman and Luthor's first major confrontation in Superman: The Animated Series...
And here's Superman 2025...

Also, while it's no "Save Martha!", why does Superman only refer to Krypto as "the dog" in this scene?

It irks me to no end.
Krypto is Clark's dog.
He looks like this,

Kara has a cat named Streaky.

Dex-Starr is still best kitty though.

My dude I had no idea what "Troma" was until you mentioned it.

You are right it's odd. My guess it was to reinforce the fact Clark doesn't think of Krypton as his dog. It's was another of Gunn's weird changes to make Krypto Kara's dog and not Clark's. Even the Rock, didn't mess this up.

This is something that I don't get about Gunn. He is friends with Michael Rosenbaum, the only person that consistently goes toe to toe with Clancy Brown as Best Lex Luthor. He personally praised him for being such a great Lex

But he went with a cartoony Lex that admits being jealous like a teenage girl. Even the actor he hired to play Lex is better suited for something serious, and threatening, but his Lex just isn't.

It's not bad just for Superman, but it also cheapens Lex as a villain.

The main thing both the Snyder stuff and the Gunn stuff proves is that John Byrne had the best takes on the Superman characters. Even the animated universe versions of the Superman cast are all just lifted from Byrne's Man of Steel and the relaunch run he wrote and drew.

That said, I would kill for an animated version of Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow that was 100% comic-accurate.

Those people are retarded the only thing that remotely comes to "good" in Snyderverse is when he straight up plagerizes comic panels for 5 seconds.
I mean, those Metropolis and Smallville fights in Man of Steel are fucking amazing. Also, The Speed Force scene in Justice League is awesome, and dispels the belief that the team up is just Superman and the Special Olympians.

He shouldn't record goddamn dialogue, though, not even the great Ben Affleck can't overcome his exposition-hurl style of directing convos.

I saw Super Girl, 5/10. Already forgotten about most of it.

Not sure who the movie was made for, having the villains be a pedo group was a really dumb move if they wanted the family market. And the flat out ugly grey look also wasn't a good move, it doesn't stand out visually anyway, which might have helped sell itself in the trailers if it did.

And with hard-core comic fans, it does nothing fresh. It is very much a run-of-the-mill comic book movie. If it came out in 2016, maybe people would be fine with that. But at this point, people are sick of the same old shit.
