I still feel that unifying under the banner of historic Christian cultures is better than trying to play the game of “blood purity.” It still runs into the issue of denominational schisms, but a Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox will usually have more in common than any would have with a Hindu or Muslim.

Firstly: There never was a unified christianity though. Even ignoring schisms, back when european states could conceivably consider christianity their state religion, the fact their cultures differed in so many other aspects was frequently grounds to create out and in groups and fight wars over that. As well as power. It didn't at any point in time matter to a power hungry lord who shared a religion with him/his people if waging a war meant gaining land, ressources and influence. The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation was unified by Liege and Name only, while the infighting between "white christians" was notoriously bad, even in the context of the medieval era.
Secondly: "historic" is a nebulous word, because how far back you choose to go is entirely up to interpretation. Lithuania was a bastion of pagan faith in the medieval ages and when they finally did convert their ruler Jogaila didn't decree it to finally join the christian religious family, but to compound influence through an arranged marriage. Not to mention that a royal decree doesn't just evaporate a peoples long held traditions overnight. And then think of the berber occupation of iberia. Spain was majority or at least large part muslim for centuries, but they are certainly not in the discussion for being non-christian.
Thirdly: I confess when this topic is brought up, I feel very left out. I'm not a christian, by any means and where I come from christianity didn't play a major role in the public eye or culture for well over 90 years. So what's my place in all of this? It's funny that people don't or can't understand this; differences become more or less stark based on what you're comparing. An Irishman might be a nigger when compared to a German but can pass as white in comparison to actual niggers. When niggers start moving into the neighborhood your disagreements with the Protestant next door start to look a little less important by comparison.
