Peru has elected right-wing conservative hardliner Keiko Fujimori as President of Peru. However, she is not the first Japanese or East Asian person to be the leader of a South American country; that position goes to her father Alberto Fujimori, who was Peru's most infamous authoritarian leader. Both Keiko and Alberto come from Japanese immigrants who came to South America (Brazil and Peru having the most diaspora) during the Japanese wave of migration in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Castillo's vice president Dina Boluarte succeeded him but her approval collapsed after the Peruvian Army committed massacres and she was then impeached by Congress and Popular Force unanimously to prevent civil war. She was then succeeded by President of Congress José Jerí who was then ousted by Congress but defended by Popular Force because he had dealings with a Chinese businessman. Jerí was succeeded by José María Balcázar, a corrupt leftist and an advocate of child marriage. Keiko, a proponent of authoritarianism who defends her father's legacy and has connections with many of her family's businesses, will now succeed Balcázar.
Peru now re-joins the right-wing bloc of Latin American countries such as Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Paraguay, Colombia, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, and neutered socialist Venezuela in becoming strong allies of the USA under President Donald Trump in a Latin American phenomena called the "conservative wave." The only countries in Latin America where the left-wing have power are Brazil, Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Uruguay—the remnants of the neutered "pink wave" left-wing phenomena that once dominated Latin American politics in the 2000s.
