Anyone else feel like a lot of "female empowerment" material is just another coat of paint for shitting on women?

Isn't self-sabotage more common in girls than boys?
Not entirely sure what you're talking about. People self sabotage in a variety of ways, in different areas of their lives, i.e. career, dating, social groups, etc. I would say both sexes self sabotage in equal measure, but in different categories. Also depends greatly on upbringing. Fatherlessness has been a detriment to society for men and women.

I think the competition can be true, but it's not universal, and a lot of women move away from that mindset as they get older. There are always people who stay stuck in high school mentally forever, but it's not actually helpful long-term. When kids start being involved, a lot of women start to realize they need the women around them to help; most of your guy friends aren't going to step in as an emergency babysitter.

How that plays into modern pop culture is that we simultaneously get a lot of mixed messages and competing pressures. You can't make a character without someone being pissed - she's a Mary Sue, or a bitch, or a feminist power fantasy, or weak, or boring, too sexy, too ugly, too passive, too assertive. Combine that with writers who are too online, and corporate directives that demand certain portrayals, and you end up stuck with Rey, or Captain Marvel, or Skylar from Breaking Bad (who everyone hated). Bad writing doesn't help, but even a good writer would struggle. Has there been any female character in the last ten years that was overwhelmingly liked? Even by other women?

where their tone reads first as 'fuck you, specific man' and the empowerment there is a product of the man being disappointing so the woman gurrlbosses up.
Out of all the songs, 'No Scrubs' isn't about hating men, it's about ignoring 'scrubs' who go after women who are out of their league. A verse involves men leaning out of their cars and 'hollering' at them, - which is still done today, might I add - and in black culture, a man being a 'scrub' is a deadbeat, a broke ass nigga wanting a woman and then expecting her to give it all up for him. TLC had better songs than most girl groups at the time. The TLC women were dissed in the song, 'Just Playing' by Biggie, who rapped about a bunch of black women being fuckable or not - he said Chaka Khan had a hairy pussy and would have to 'hit it from the back' and how Mariah Carey was 'scary' - and it was common for girl groups to get dragged.

In their specific case, girlbossing might save their lives as so many of these men were rapists and abusers.

I remember when Taylor Swift was still doing country and her look was around the 'Girl Next Door'. Then she went into NLOG status with that one song on how she's a lower status teenager who isn't paid attention to by the popular guy while the cheerleader does:
[Verse 1]
You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset
She's going off about something that you said
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do
I'm in the room, it's a typical Tuesday night
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do

[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts
She's Cheer Captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming 'bout the day when you wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time

[Chorus]
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along, so why can't you see?
You belong with me, you belong with me

I bet you that cheerleader is volunteering at her local animal shelter or charity while the girl in the bleachers is on a Something Awful forum trolling people. Not that either is bad, per se - it's the holier-than-thou aspect of it. Now I gotta wonder what the random guy's humour is for the cheer captain to 'not get it'. Cheerleaders are very social and not all of them are glitter and butterflies.
The consequences of the masplaining meme still haunts us till this day. Maybe initially it had some reasonable problems to point out but this is downright clown thinking :'(
The funny thing is, I've read fanfic where Rey is given a better backstory and lore to her powers than the films did. Before it was revealed she was related to Palpatine, people wondered if she was a Kenobi. Honestly, it'd be cool as fuck if she was related to Darth Revan, and would be a nod to KOTOR and other lore.
None of these survival mechanisms are necessary any more.
This is untrue, we still utilize these mechanisms. They just operate under different environments.

They are unnecessary in terms of their original functionality. We no longer have the same strict competition for resources and mates. We are more connected than ever before, meaning people can find potential partners all over the world. So while we do still compete for companions, it's not nearly as life or death as it was when we developed this evolutionary trait. The program needs an upgrade, is what I'm trying to say lol.

I'm going to get a lot of negative reactions but fuck it.

Women are so toxic to other women and they give the worst advice to each other. It's rarely to uplift but usually because the cunty competitive side likes to see them struggle--it makes them feel like they have power and control when there is actually very little of either in their life

Cunts in a bucket.
The vast majority of this website consists of men being toxic to other men

Sk8r boi to me is in a cluster with Bills Bills Bills , Truth Hurts, No Scrubs, and Hit 'em Up Style where their tone reads first as 'fuck you, specific man' and the empowerment there is a product of the man being disappointing so the woman gurrlbosses up.

I disagree.

"Sk8er Boi" was about how the preppie girl "who did ballet" didn't appreciate the boi,, became a single baby mama, and gets to watch him succeed as a rockstar, while his new girlfriend (the singer) tells her how "she missed out...[because she] couldn't see the man that boy could be".

"Bills, Bill's, Bills" and "No Scrubs" are song about not tolerating broke bums who are leeching off you, the woman. "Truth Hurts" is a more general song about Lizzo dumping her low effort, "non-commital" man, and moving onto a better guy. And "Hit 'Em Up Style" is making your cheating man pay for it in the literal sense.

Out of all five of those songs, "Sk8er Boi" feels the least empowering. It's mostly trashing the other girl for not seeing how totes amazing this guy is, and finishing by bragging about how the singer's got him now. The other four songs are more materialistic, but at least they center themselves around the women singing them and how they deserve better. Sk8er "grrl" is a side character who's just happy to be backstage.

But I went back to an older song I liked called "stupid girls" and realized it's just... kinda shitting on the average woman. It obviously describes more valley girl-esque types, celeb chasers, the like.

The idea itself, as in pointing out/satirizing certain types of women or acknowledging them as shitty is not bad, in my opinion

If my recollections were correct, the song (and its music video) were a direct slam on Paris Hilton (the tiny dogs, the hip hugger jeans).

To be fair, anyone who remembers that time and thought about it critically could see how vapid those kinds of personalities were. "Stupid" was not that far off. If that song came out today, the obvious stand in would be the Kardashians and Jenner girls.

(Moid opinion) ideological material is either meant to have one gender shit on itself or to push forth hedonism as a grand old time that no one will judge you for, until you want to step away from that life.

I feel like this is fuel for gender war slop on social media and it will embolden men to be more hateful towards us as well as dividing other women and causing in-fighting. A lot of these trends are manufactured by companies so take that into mind.

Paris Hilton was shat on so badly in the 2000s. Everyone thought she was a dumb bimbo, but when she came out with her documentary, it reveals a sensitive, sultry-voiced, intelligent woman. The sex tape wasn't even filmed with her consent or knowledge - unlike Kim K who willingly sold hers - and it cemented her reputation of being "easy." Her sister is a Rothschild now so people don't really trash talk her anymore. Skits, songs, and parodies were done on her. Turns out she went to a literal torture camp because her mother was displeased with her.

Per the thread title: absolutely.

It is either a roundabout way to insult women to their faces or a roundabout way to get young, impressionable women to take their clothes off under the guise of "taking it back" or whatever. Meanwhile, you just posted pictures of the goods and now that's never going away.

My experience is that when you are free from women with personality disorders and there are one or more older women who also don't have personality disorders, this kind of hellscape evaporates. It only takes one female narc to send the social dynamics out of whack. I don't know why normie women feel compelled to follow crazy women and make them happy, I really don't.
