In all seriousness, I don't like when people compare critics with Roger Ebert. Yes, he was famous and he's the first name that comes up when you think of critics, but it always seems a little lazy.

Why not bring up Robert Christgau, or Lester Bangs, or Gene Siskel, or Piero Scaruffi, or the guy who replaced Ebert (I forget his name).

In all honesty though, Ebert was miles above Enter as a critic. One of the things that separates them is that he did a lot of research on the films he reviewed, and the history of film in general. He had an appreciation for classic black-and-white cinema that I think is pretty rare.

The other thing that set him apart was his passion for what he reviewed. You could tell that he genuinely enjoyed watching and reviewing films, and when he saw a bad movie it hurt him because of his passion. This is something that I honestly believe Enter lacks.

What bothered me more is that he implies that the mother shouldn't really be hurt. "Most mothers wouldn't take it to heart."
Most mothers would definitely have the sense to see how shallow it is for a child to say bad things about them, but that doesn't make the pain any less real. Having someone you love so much say something so horrible about you is hurtful, and even if you understand that they don't mean it then hearing them say the words can still hurt deeply. This goes to mothers especially who are famous for caring about this children so intensely, and this mother is definitely supposed to be of that caring archtype. Plus, since children can be so shallow, it's possible that a kid can really mean it when they express a dislike of their parents because they don't comprehend the depth of what they're saying. A child is so shallow that they really can mean it when they say "I wish you weren't my mother" even if they don't have a legitimate reason to feel that way. Different mothers would express themselves with any kind of emotion, but I'm sure more mothers would be upset than Enter thinks.

tl;dr Enter can't comprehend anything that's not in line with his experiences.

I'm still watching the review and all I'm seeing is Enter complaining about a story not ironing out the minute fundamental details instead of working on developing the minute fundamental details of his story.

I always just go back to comparing Enter to benthelooney since there are things that they share more in common and really quirks I've noticed about a lot of that cartoon "ranting" community on YouTube.

I dunno, Even Ben had some legit points when he did reviews (like how terribad Family Guy is). Yeah he was an idiot and sperged heavily. But I'll at least give him that much in comparison.

Enter just feels like everything is out to get him and acts like a whiny brat whether he's reviewing something good or bad.
 
That's true. Enter always sounds emotionally unstable and on the brink of crying, screaming and having a nervous breakdown in a lot of his reviews now, not to mention the constant projection that he does now. He's also gotten more of a following than ben ever had. Even ben is in college right now too.

His reviews have a tendency to do that. Angela Anaconda was a show I hated as a kid, but I found myself defending it when Enter reviewed it.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if the next review he ever does of something he hates makes me change my mind about ever hating that show, giving it another chance, and outright loving said show he hates, just to spite him, too, @Piga Dgrifm ...

Maybe if he beat up on something like Brandy & Mr. Whiskers... Or the Buzz on Maggie - shows that deserve a lot of hate, IMHO.

Even in that regard, Enter fails. Enter's dismissal of animation outside of his interests, such as Japanese anime or old animations such as Looney Tunes is very well-known on the sub-forums. Critics who take the "serious approach" (and even critics who just do things humorously) are supposed to be well-versed and educated in their fields. Enter's knowledge of animation is miniscule at best, so the fact that he's trying to give in-depth criticism just falls flat.

This isn't Ebert. This isn't Red Letter Media. Hell, this isn't even fucking Nostalgia Critic Doug Walker. Enter watched a bunch of SpongeBob when he was young and somehow he thinks this makes him qualified to criticize without any further research into what he's doing. This is essentially what is wrong with Enter as a critic. For being passionate about animation, he knows jack shit about it.

Enter's in his own league of shit that only he and his rabid followers slum around in. Even shitty reviewers/ranters like BenTheLooney (one of his friends mind you) is better than he is. And he's fucking terrible.

Point is, Enter and his followers like 03bgood and AnimatedJames shouldn't even be compared to any other critic ever. Not TGWTG, Red letter Media, and especially his friend/inspiration of sorts.

If you'll all forgive me for being nostalgic for a moment, I kind of miss the cartoon morons of the 90s and 2000s (along with the general toon fan community of back then, but that's another story)...

Sure, they were apt to blindly agree with whatever John K. said, but at least John K. knew something about animation. And he didn't complain about how something was mean spirited all the time.
 
The cartoon community now is abysmal. Thanks to the sites like twitter or tumblr, instead of having fans of certain shows being able to talk to people who work on them civilly, they send death threats, over-analyze things that shouldn't (i.e a Spongebob episode from 2010), or make rants/reviews thus are "experts" in the field.

If any cartoon is "mean-spirited", they go awol.
