I'm somewhat familiar with this kind of curriculum in the US and am planning on opting my youngest out of it and have already done that with all social-emotional surveys and check-ins. Schools have been overreaching more and more. I understand why, it started with the simple fact that school is the one place where all children are observed for long periods of time by other adults. Strategically it's a great institution to use to make sure society's children are fed, have good dental health, and aren't being neglected or abused. But now schools are expected to solve all society ailments and have gotten way too used to taking on roles that should be the domain of the family, while also bending the knee to families that have absolutely insane needs and views.
Just because a number of parents give their children unfettered access to the Internet, schools don't have the balls to ban phones and devices on campus, and so your child will be exposed to porn when they are eight. The compromise? Teach kids about porn! By a teacher who broke down and got their credential after finding out their English degree was useless, or by some lady who couldn't hack a nursing program but could get a health credential. She probably has an essential oils MLM scheme on the side.
Honestly, I think these sorts of people are plenty enough to teach kids how to line up, raise their hands, and learn their phonics but have no place teaching kids about social politics. But nothing is going to change if families don't complain or pull their kids from participating.
Anyway, sign the waiver. Get your kid out of it. Hubby can go pout.
Oh, and most of the health curriculum here is largely harmless and would be easy to circumvent at home if it weren't for the incompetent if not aggressively incompetent idiots teaching it.
