That remote is the standard issue remote used in most major hotel chains. We know he’s not home because that pillow and bed is way too clean but it’s not a hospital bed either.

I know every hospitals is different but they have weird remotes due to sanitary/cleaning needs, not losing them and patients with various accessibility issues. That is not a remote you see at a hospital.

So, I'm guessing things went down like this: Phil has been desperate for attention and to "get one over on those Kiwis" that he concocted this SRS lie several months ago. He's forged/stolen medical records, did that idiotic countdown calendar thing, made himself sick with laxatives to get into the ER to take "recovery" selfies, and even managed to squirrel some money away from his tugboat that would normally just be taken by Slingblade to keep his vodka stash full so Phil can get a night or two at the local Motel 6 for more "recovery" time. And for what? So he can engage in some kind of victory fantasy over the people who are going to laugh at him regardless of what he does?

Even if he did get SRS we would still laugh at him, because it would change nothing outside of him having a cosmetic hole carved into his guts. Doesn't change his chromosomes, doesn't change his genetics, doesn't change how obviously manish he is, doesn't change his Autism or his sub-standard intelligence, doesn't change that he is a complete loser. We still get a laugh no matter what.

Edit: at least he got to sleep in a bed for a little while instead of the couch in his front room. Phil got a few days away from Slingblade's drunken abuse and slept in a real bed like a real person, and Slingblade got to drink in peace without having to hear Bucktooth O'Taters bouncing and squeaking about Kiwis not believing he's a real girl.
