I will say when I was last in Australia, I went out and did a nice bush walk and bumped into a group of tourists, mainly Asians standing and watching a koala that was sitting in a tree (fairly common to see gaggles of tourists all hyperfixacted on one Koala or baby kangaroo and all shadowing around scaring the fuck out of it).

As I was walking past, I heard one of the 5 or 6 year old kids turn to his Mom and ask what the correct pronouns to refer to the Koala were and the Mom responded with "Call it "it" honey" until you know for sure" or something similar. Don't remember the exact wording but I laughed my ass off.

He had a bit of an accent so unsure where he was from but sounded German(ish)/European.

One other thing/story that annoyed me was when I was in University in Koalaland, we had to read and do a breakdown of this book that was written by some American chick. Since it was written in the book using the American spelling (Mom/Mum, etc.) I decided to use that language style for my piece and my teacher failed me. I ended up getting into it with her and telling her that was dumb as I was reading/writing as it was presented by the author. Nonetheless she passed me after I caused a big enough stink. Think she realised it wasn't worth it since it wasn't an official assesment.
